That this all felt so familiar, was the only thought he had before he was gripped by the sudden pang of loss.

Yes, this was home... or at least something like it, but it had changed from whatever fragmented memory he still had.
There had been others... a pack? Family?
He didn't know. Was he mourning something he'd long forgotten?

The forest path yawned wide ahead of him, and he moved as if pulled. Any glance behind him showed the trees knit together far tighter than he imagined, until there was no trace of sky between them at all. The path behind him vanished amidst roots undergrowth next.

There was only forward, only Home calling him back.

He would not leave again.
