"Monsters are always among us. They're just usually less monstrous than you'd expect." The Skydancer's tail lashed calmly. From behind her goggled-framed, fur-masked face, her violet eyes were piercing, yet cool. She was not mad, no; she simply had a strong presence, a great energy. Something felt off, as though she was not completely dragon; was that what she meant with the monster statement? Is this intense feeling terrifying or inspiring? That's for you to decide.

Purple is a spirited, rowdy, rebellious dragon. Her voice is loud and her tongue can be sharper than her claws (which is saying something--her claws are sharp). She loves adventure, has a curious spirit, and is creative in most aspects, from problem-solving to casual art. Not to mention she's fiercely independent (perhaps stubbornly so), and very quick to engage in any kind of combat. Don't be completely fooled, no; Purple has a heart, buried as it may be. She'll cry when reading cheesy scrolls and thoroughly appreciates little things of gratitude. Perhaps because she worries greatly about how the other dragons around her view her. With her capricious mood and ability to leave behind even the most crucial of items, she fears that maybe she's disliked. She hopes, though, that her clanmates like having her because of her and her rowdy sense of humor--and yes, they do, I promise. She's loved. [ M a n y Y e a r s A g o . . .] It was just a day in the Wood. That was all. The young Skydancer was frolicking through the pine needles and glowing fungi, cyan light reflecting in her dark purple eyes as she grinned. Her fledging wings flapped as she skipped along a path that did not exist in time to the beat of her steps and the surrounding blue fireflies she sent scattering. From a young age she was always looking for adventure (or, as her clanmates called it, "trouble"). She had paused to examine a particularly interesting purple flower. It was absolutely not like the other hundreds of flowers in the Wood that she had passed so far, absolutely not, no, this one was interesting enough to stop and scrutinize. ...That, or it was just the first one of the purple flowers she noticed. I never said Purple was observant. From the brambles, she heard a growl. And she thought it was nothing. The Wood had many creatures of the night and she was already one of them, as far as she was concerned--a born Shadow dragon, with the beautiful royal eyes to show for it. So the Skydancer girl continued to survey her oh-so-fascinating purple flower. Understandably, when the pale wolf jumped on her, she was very shocked indeed. Its eyes were hollow and yet overflowing with an unnatural, unholy violet light. Sludge, like that she had been told dripped from her goddess Shadowbinder, leaked from its jaws as it stared at her with its soulless eyes. It splayed her wings against the ground, leaving her on her back and staring up at it; she could feel its massive claws leaving tears and scratches in her wings. She had a feeling it would not kill her, even as it dug its sharp yet ghostly fangs into her one wing, the part where her flight feathers were growing in. With a curt snarl the beast released her and ran off into the Wood. Purple watched it run, but it had simply vanished into nothingness before it ran away enough for her to lose sight of it. Purple raised a gray talon to the bite wound. When she pulled it away, she found it did not have blood on it--the wound had begun to bleed shadows, the same shadows that had pooled at the wolf's mouth. It didn't take long for Purple to realize her new ability, her gift from the Shadowbinder herself: Purple could change into a wolf, completely conscious and in-control. |
