- Biography

What... is he?
Far too many dragons have asked. It never gets easier to hear, but he can't exactly blame them.

Nothing about Lis sits quite right. He knows this.

He's roughly coatl-shaped. He has a normal silhouette. He's grateful of this.
But he has far too many eyes, and they aren't even in the right places. He covers most of them, but it's impossible to hide them all.

His feathers are faded. They're always faded as if he's terribly ill. It doesn't matter how much he washes, or how many he plucks out, they'll always grow back that way.

His magic is faded as well. It's strong, but barely visible; it hardly tinges his arrows when he enchants them, barely gives off light on his claws. It's frustrating.

People have said they hear buzzing in their ears when he's near. That they can't quite focus their eyes on him. He isn't sure if it's psychosomatic, a lie, or something else entirely, but it certainly bothers him.

So many think he's shadetouched, but he's not. He's really not.

But his mother was near shade-consumed when she had him. Fully shade-consumed when she laid the nest that his brother hatched from, and a husk by the time he learned he had to flee.

The others, they were touched, certainly. His other siblings terrified him.

He learned to fight with tooth and claw by necessity. Learned to fight with bow and arrows from afar when he had the chance.

He had to protect his baby brother, after all. They were different. And they needed to get away.

They both were altered by the clan they were born into, most certainly, but they'd made it out without being infected themselves.

His brother even looked normal - though they only learned that when they found their first proper village.

Lis looked so much like his mother. He looked like the rest of his clan. He learned very suddenly, and very painfully, that he looked wrong, when the dragons in this new place chased him away - and tried to separate him from his little brother.

The following few towns reacted much the same, and over time Lis learned the best thing he could do was cover himself as well as possible so they might stay the night.

Getting closer to anyone than that was impossible.

-

At least, until Lytra came along.

Of all people, he would have expected a shade purger to be the least likely to trust him.
And for once, he was elated to be wrong.

She didn't run when she saw them, didn't chase him off, either.
She could tell that they weren't infected.

She spoke to them - and was patient, in spite of how unused to conversation he was.

She was the first person he explained his and his brother's past to - and in turn, the first person who he really got to know.

He'd never have imagined friendship would come so easily, or companionship would be so welcome. Most of all, he couldn't have fathomed how fast time would pass when you were that much less alone.

His brother grew up learning from them both, and following in her footsteps in spite of his inability to wield such magic, and as he grew to idolize her Lis loved her.

And he knew what a foolish thing that was. Stifled it. Silently promised never to breathe a word of it.

She'd already done so much for them, after all. To put such a burden on her was unthinkable.
After all, so much of the world saw him as a monster.

The best he could do was what he always had done.
Be her support. Her friend. Hold down the patients for her.

After all, it was a wonderful thing to be, was it not?
He'd never ask for any more.
