Background

Toxy nervously tapped her claws against her staff; it took all of her control to stop herself from pacing, she knew that if she started to move the urge to run would overtake her. If her information was correct she was about to meet her brother, a prospect that filled her with no small amount of apprehension. Apprehension that was well earned as many of her siblings ascribed to the same philosophy of cruelty and violence as their mother. There were a few who didn’t; a small list of names, many of whom were now gone. This final name, Asogne, was the last name on the list and one she was unsure of. An older brother that she had never met or corresponded with but whose name was mentioned in a letter from a sister that she did trust. But Toxy was desperate. Disaster had struck her former clan. A bandit attack that left behind nothing but corpses. It was only the deeply ingrained desire to run and hide when fighting started that had kept Toxy alive, at least that was one thing she could thank her family for. But now she was adrift, a single skittish tundra alone in the world, easy prey for bandits and beasts alike. She needed to find somewhere safe, she needed a new home. So she tentatively reached out to the siblings she knew were safe. Desperately wishing for a good home, a safe home, for a sibling to welcome her into a new family. Each time she came up empty handed. All dead or missing except for this last one. She had asked around the trading post and one merchant had recognized the name and description. The merchant had offered to send a message to his clan on her behalf and Toxy had nervously accepted. A couple days later she had a reply, Asogne would meet her at the trading post in a week’s time.

The week had passed with agonizing slowness and Toxy had nearly ran on more than one occasion. The only thing that kept her waiting for the meeting was the knowledge that this was her last best chance at finding a home. She was under no delusion about her ability to find a safe home on her own. Her instincts for such a thing were so out of whack from her upbringing that she could not trust them.
And so she waited. Hoping that this brother she had never met would turn out to be someone she could trust, someone safe.
