Poplar
We shall not sleep / Though poppies grow / In Flander's Fields

As a young dragon, Poplar had struck out on his own to seek his own home and fortune. In his wanderings, he discovered Seafoam, another young but ambitious dragon seeking to begin her own clan. She already had the foundations laid; the beginnings of a lair, a stockpile of food, and a small horde of treasure. He was drawn to this dragon who seemed to have a plan and a solid direction. He became the first member of her clan as well as her mate.

But as time went on, it became clear that Seafoam was not truly fit to lead. He learned that she was more of an observer, staying on the sidelines of her own clan. He watched as many members of the clan drifted away or went to serve the Windsinger. Even many of his own children left to find new homes. But then the two began to go through several transformations together. Through magical means the two clan leaders changed species, his mate to a strong ridgeback and he into a lithe spiral. They also acquired genes that made them truly stand out. These changes gave both dragons a new confidence that they had never known. Seafoam became the leader that her clan truly needed, and Poplar stood proudly by his side. It had been a long and difficult road, but the clan would now truly prosper under the two of them. The two adorned themselves with eyes to symbolize their place as watchers of the clan.

Poplar did much for the clan. Seafoam often stayed at the lair to manage the day-to-day workings. Poplar often traveled. He scouted for better scavenging and gathering locations, acted as ambassador to other clans, and visited the trading post and auction house for clan essentials.

It was on one of his scouting trips that he found his familiar. He’d been looking for new hunting grounds for the clan to try. They’d been overhunting their previous territory and needed to look elsewhere before doing permanent damage to the ecosystem. As he looped through the sky, he noticed a single silver springbok. He was about to keep going, one animal was hardly indication of good hunting grounds, but then he noticed that the springbok was going berserk. It was running around aimlessly, kicking its legs, reversing direction for no reason, and foaming at the mouth. He went closer and saw that its eyes were glowing with some evil light. The poor creature was being possessed by a remnant of the shade. While many dragons would have killed the animal on sight, Poplar couldn’t bring himself to do it. He landed and was able to calm the springbok and reason with it. The shade was expelled and the two have been together ever since.

Poplar - Oh my. A progen. A fancy crytallized progen! Male spirals are some of my favorite art as it is, so it's not surprising I'd be attracted... but of course, this guy deserves it. He's dressed all fancy, and I love how his goggles compliment his wings. And of course, I'm never not pleasantly surprised about how cool crackle looks on spirals (and not on much else... heh). That, and you're lucky all the colors match, haha...
