PERSONALITY
Hirael's one of the most peaceful in the Grove, at least as far as dragons go. He actually tends to go beneath notice if you're not seeking him out; he's polite and soft-spoken, humble and compassionate, though he tends to come across as slightly cold and reserved to those he doesn't know. Despite his heritage he has no sense of superiority at all, and nothing remotely resembling arrogance either -- in fact he's just about as opposite as you can get.

As unassuming as he appears, underestimating him is a dangerous proposition. He has the tenacity of a bulldog and the will to match, and just because he's a priest now doesn't mean that he doesn't know how to fight; he has claws and teeth and a powerful mastery of light magic that few others have attained.

He's both very intelligent and inventive and spends a lot of the time with his nose in a book. He's not a bad tactician either -- or he would be if he wasn't so insecure about his decisions. He learns from his mistakes, sure, but the fact that they have to happen at all is something he's desperate to avoid.

He's fiercely protective of those he trusts, especially when he's the one they're relying on. Even soldiers that used to be under his command knew perfectly well Hirael would give himself up to defend them. It's not smart, and Hirael doesn't like to think he's directed by his emotion, but he also knows he'd be a far worse person if he wasn't.
