The familiar soft sound of claws through soil was interrupted by another more intimidating sound cutting through the serene glen. “Hello? I thought I heard a-oh hello! Another dragon! I'm Yennen.” Singdhursigh narrowed his eyes and shook the dirt from his beard. A female. He glanced around his den at the dewdrop laden leaves, the petrichor of the ground wafting through the air. He sized her up. Lithe and wiry, and most decidedly not green. Uninteresting. The great Guardian turned back to his digging. “The Gladekeeper sure gave you a great spot! Wow, right next to the willows and birches!” The Mirror yammered bounding over to the larger male. “And this moss is just divine! Hatchlings would just love romping around on this.” “I am going to have hatchlings” Singdhursigh said reservedly, “but I have high expectations for them all. We are Nature dragons, and thus we should exemplify all that is the Gladekeeper.” “They should be proud and strong like the mighty oak?” “No, they should be verdantly colored of hide and mind.” “Pardon?” “They should be green.” Yennen smiled. “Not all Nature dragons are green though. Some of us are like the iris or rose, or even the lowly pansy and gardenias.” Her green eyes shone up at him. “The color of your hide matters not to the Gladekeeper.” “Well it matters to me.” He replied stubbornly. He planted his claws firmly in the ground and towered over her. “And what do you say to that?” She looked around the glen as he eyed the entry. The sunlight played off her fiery scales and reflected in his eyes a passionate spirit. “Well,” she began with a hop to sit next to him, much to his dismay, “I think the ivy would look much better over there, near the willows instead of the evergreens. And those mums? Ugh, they so need more sunlight then there. And you know what that rise needs? Snapdragons!” As Yennen bounded over to rearrange the begonias Singdhursigh sighed. Well, he DID need a decorator. |
