Biography
Artemisia sp. |

ARTEMISIA
Head Huntress & Beastmaster protective | pure | independent Aartemisia is the head of the hunt and rules the wild places. Like her namesake, she values her independence, freedom and privacy. When necessary she protects the vulnerable who did not share her freedom, and defends the oppressed and suffering. Perhaps in somewhat of a contradiction she also tends to the clan's free-ranging herds. She ensures that the needs of the clan do not come at the expanse of the health of the land, and that those animals under the care of the clan are free from disease and strife.
"Indifference is the strongest force in the universe.
It makes everything it touches meaningless. Love and hate don't stand a chance against it.”
- Jerusha, The Snow Queen
Many plants in the genus Artemisia have essential oils that have powerful chemical properties. The genus includes sagebrush, tarragon, and wormwood (absinth). The genus Artemisia is named after the greek goddess Artemis. She was the hellenic goddess of the hunt, wild animals, wilderness, the moon, and childbirth.

Who owns the wild? No one, she laughs, a bright bell-like sound that echoes against the cliffs. Only half-wits and lunatics, those driven mad by the moon, lack the decency to respect nature’s own claim to itself.
Who rules the wild? At this her laughter grows still. You should know better than to ask such questions, she says, her voice threatening and low. She does not comment further, though, only sits back on her haunches and watches, eyes hooded and dark.
Who runs wild with the hunt? Her voice steadies at this response. Why, all of us, she replies, and she does not need to gesture for everyone around her to know that she means the warriors that cluster around her, the ones that leap at her command. They run with the hunt, but the hunt belongs to her, as sure as the night is clear and full of stars.
Who tames the wild? This time the question emerges in a whisper, a soft thing unfolding its wings under the pale light of the crescent moon. I do, she says, and she looks the asker in the eye. I do, and I did, and I shall until it comes time for me to walk this earth no more.
In the end all the questions end up as foolish things. Those narrow queries cannot capture her, her essence, her passion. Yes, she rules the wild places, and yes, she runs at the head of the hunt when they all crash recklessly through the wild. But she tends to the wilds as well, when all is said and done, when the clan has drawn up their ledgers and is deciding what to do with the herds. The herds belong to her, just as each and every fresh kill belongs to her as well.
What other question is there to ask?
