Personality
Petrichor is a fun loving and laid back dragon, but one who carries a strong sense of duty. He is immensely proud - and will tell everyone just that - of his speed and how entrusted he is to carry messages directly to and from the Kings themselves. He is rarely serious about most matters and will approach things with a sense of humor and a lot of trust. Able to befriend just about anyone, he has a large social circle and likes to show off for his friends. Don't let his laid back nature fool you - he would die for any of his friends. |
Background
|
Petrichor's childhood is a bit of a blur, and asking him to recall it is about as easy as asking a Nocturne to view their reflection. He grew up stealing on the streets, taken in by a ring of thieves and criminals hoping to capitalize on his small size and youthful face to get the pity of well-meaning dragons. His first years saw him as a beggar, but his deft claws and fast footwork made him a better pickpocket than anything. Eventually his exploits got the attention of high-paying nobles looking to knock the Miasmic Kingdom down a notch; by stealing the King's Crowns. Petrichor, with his mission in the back of his mind, traveled to the Kingdom in question to scope out how heavily guarded the crowns were. At the time, he stayed in the newly established Temple of Life, where the Priestess Hibou offered him shelter as a traveler in his own right. When she learned of his plan to take the crowns, she and her Guardian tried to persuade him to give up - but Petrichor was stubborn and refused to drop his quest. Solarien and Hibou alerted the Royal Guard, who captured Petrichor and brought him before the Kings. Under the influence of the ruthless Miasma, Baptisia bestowed upon Petrichor a copper collar that could never be removed, and told him that he could earn his freedom if he lived his life in service to the Kingdom. Petrichor, ultimately choosing between a life of servitude or his own execution, accepted. He found he enjoyed what he was tasked with - delivering correspondence from the Kings to the various corners of the Kingdom post-haste - and chose to remain within the Kingdom's borders. Though some say he is still in contact with his previous employers... |
Familiar and Bond
Petrichor's Living Sculpture is not in fact alive - rather, much like his collar it is a deeply enchanted item that serves to keep a watchful eye on the ex-thief, ensuring that he will never betray the Kingdom. It serves a double purpose nowadays, guarding the packages that Petrichor and his fellow messengers have yet to carry to their destinations. The Sculpture does appear to move on its own, and has even been spotted showing affection towards Petrichor when the messenger is off-duty. Petrichor and his Sculpture have less of a bond and more of an obscure partnership, becoming something borderline mutualistic. The Sculpture receives the constant magical attention that such an enchanted object requires to remain in an animated state, and Petrichor doesn't need to fear that his delayed packages will be ruined or stolen. |
Occupation and Hobbies
As the royal messenger, Petrichor's inherent speed is put to use; running messages for nearly everyone in the Kingdom, Pet is always on his feet and rarely stops moving, even when he has a day off. Typically he can be seen running four or five letters across the Kingdom at a time, though on slower days he will run packages. His highest priority, however, is messages from the Kings. These messages are of utmost importance and may not be delayed, which is the only time that Petrichor will be seen flying rather than running. Outside of his duties, Petrichor's hobbies include racing other dragons - whether to feed his ego or entertain others is uncertain - and stalking through Saoirse's garden to peruse the season's latest blooms. One wouldn't think him a creature of such class, but anyone who doubts his fondness for the world around him will be hard pressed to find any other reason for him to wander the garden - unless of course he's seeking his husband. |
