QUOTE OR SOMETHING

"Orpheus! Orpheus! Where are you?" His mother's frantic voice echoed on the frozen rocks as she flitted around the base of the Cloudscrape Crags, searching for her missing son. "Dear Icewarden, please let him be safe!"
Boreal loves to wander; it's a habit he's had since birth. While it bothered his mom, she put up with it as long as he followed her two rules: be home before nightfall and never go to the Crags. The young Nocturne followed them for the most part, but one day his overwhelming curiousity got the best of him.
His mother had gone to hunt, leaving him unsupervised. Boreal took this opportunity to slip away, enjoying the rush exploring always gave him. He didn't realize how far he wandered until it became hard to breathe. Looking down, he could see the Icefield stretching out for miles below him and was utterly blown away. It was at that moment he knew he wanted to see everything. Flying higher and higher, Boreal was determined to see all of Sornieth from the top of the Cloudscrapes.
It was then that black took over his vision, and gravity seemed to shut off.
A small shape pierced through the mist that obscured the mountain tops, gaining speed as it hurtled through the sky. Instantly, she knew what it was. "Orpheus!" The Nocturne launched herself forward, cutting through the air like a bullet. As she drew nearer to her son, she noticed a dark, misshapen form chasing after him. For what, she didn't know. All she knew is that she wouldn't let this thing touch him. Putting on an extra burst of speed, she took her son in her arms, holding him as close to her as possible. Her voice shook and her eyes watered as she said, "I thought I lost you. I-i.. I thought... I promise I'll keep you safe." Except she couldn't. She had forgotten the pitch black monster, and that mistake cost her her life. As his mother fell to the snow-covered ground, the shadow overtook him, cloaking him in its darkness.
Unlike most would, Boreal remembers every painful second. How could he not? Although he still isn't sure exactly what attacked him and killed his mother, Boreal is constantly reminded of it by the mark it left. Facets of rock-like ice that never melts brands his hide, never letting him forget. Those around him don't, either.
True to his nature, Boreal wandered the Icefield afterwards. He drifted around, never settling in one place for too long, though he seemed to gravitate toward the wood surrounding the Cloudscrapes. It was when he heard the Clans living there told stories about him, dubbing him the Boreal Ghost, that Boreal realized he'd stayed there for too long. All the ice was the same, all the rocks familiar. Every time he saw the mountains, the ice on his skin burned, and shadows danced on the edge of his vison. He had to get out. Boreal left, flying as fast and far as wings let him. He followed the floes, trying to find somewhere new. However, when he found other Clans along the way, their magic users always advised against letting him join.
Wrong, they said. Cursed. Shade-touched.
Boreal began to realize his branding was a problem, and it was spreading. He continued to follow the path of the floes, trying to find an Arcane Clan that could help him. The Nocturne was running out of supplies, running out of food. He was fading fast. His vision was darkening, and in more ways than one. Shadows, dark visions of the future and of the past, filled his waking moments. As he touched down at the edge of the Starwood Strand, it became too much. Black danced at the edges of his vision, and Boreal collapsed.
Sirius and Rehema found him while out on a walk, and she sent Sirius back to camp to go get help. Rehema recognized the dangerous glint of darkness in the ice; the magic inside could lash out at any second. She had to work fast, or the shadows would spread from the branding and corrupt his mind. The Skydancer was able to burn off most of the ice, but Boreal was infected more than she had thought. No matter how hard she tried, Rehema couldn't erase the cluster on his chest, couldn't cleanse the darkened skin surrounding it. Boreal would always bear the curse. Nevertheless, Rehema took the Nocturne back to the Clan and convinced Izerus to let him join, saying he would die otherwise. The Patriarch agreed, albeit reluctantly; his curiosity had gotten the better of him.
His eyes opened, vision blurry with sleep. A dull pain filled his chest, and his skin felt raw. Everything hurt. "You are awake." A flat voice resounded around him, and the Nocturne turned his neck to face it. A small, purple-blue dragon adorned in jewels was perched above him, taking him in with a blank fuscia stare. "I will permit you to stay in the Lilacs, but you will work. You will wear this," he motioned to a golden vest, " to cover that scar on your chest. I do not want your curse to scare my dragons. Rehema has assured me it will not infect others?" He didn't know it was a question until after a few minutes of silence. "Y-" His voice faltered, failing him after years of disuse. "Yes." "Good," the Fae replied, looking away. "Rehema will treat you weekly, so the ice will not... Cover you again." There was another pause, shorter than the last one but long enough to be awkward. "What is your name?" For some reason, this question took him aback. What was his name? It couldn't be Orpheus. Orpheus died alongside his mother, when he plummeted from the Cloudscrapes. The Nocturne searched for something, anything. No one had addressed him in so long. It took a while, but an idea formed in his head. Back in the Icefields, they had called him the ghost. The Boreal Ghost, for the wood he roamed. For when he'd wake up with no memory of the past few days, but a sick, horrible feeling his gut. But he could change things now! He was in an Arcane Clan, with the promise of shelter and help. He could reinvent himself. He could make this curse his own. "Boreal." The Fae turned back to him, fixing his unnerving stare on him, but now something he couldn't recognize flashed in the dragon's eyes. "My name is Boreal."
