The bogsneak lurked just beneath the silt at the river floor, watching the hatchlings play in the stream as he took a moment to relax. They splashed and played, knowing they were safe. He watched and waited knowing they weren't. He saw the movement of sand at the bank a long ways down, shaking the silt from himself as he swam across the bottom towards the disturbance. Ohama wasn't about to let these kids know any river monster except him, he thought as he looked up to see two Serthis poisoners looking towards the hatchlings as they got real low in hopes of getting there unseen.

It was too late for that, as the bogsneak launched himself onto the shore like an alligator after a zebra, wrapping his jaws around one while he pulled the other down into the water with the crushing force of a clawed foot. Ohama rolled, knocking the breath out of them and keeping them under until they couldn't be a threat to the kids, burying them beneath the river bed. The Serthis little more than fish food now, he returned to his place in the silt knowing that the only monster lurking here was him.
