Emmanuel is a kind dragon, despite a rough past. He genuinely cares for other dragons, even if he doesn't know them; it's why he's both the healer and patriarch of his clan. He's strongly disinclined to fight, choosing to protect his clan through healing alone.
He's astonishingly loyal to other dragons, and if needed would trade his life for theirs; however, unlike his mate, he refuses to exalt other dragons, seeing it as excessive. Emmanuel lacks the absolute belief in exalting that Alikaina has, preferring to keep them at home.

Background

---

Emmanuel was born in a smaller Arcane clan, raised by the community around him. The clan was a peaceful one, only ever waging war when forced to; it was a surprise, therefore, when the clan was ambushed and enslaved by one of many light clans, this particular clan known for its warring tendencies. Emmanuel was considered for exaltation, but after some thought was trained by the clan's aging healer. He took to his work with some reluctance, but soon fell in love with the alchemy side of it, with the possibility to create something yet to be seen. While his mentor tried to discourage this sort of experimentation, he did not force Emmanuel to stop, seeing the possible benefits of it.
When Emmanuel's mentor was killed in an attack upon the clan, Emmanuel was devastated, and for several days he refused to heal any victims of the war, friend or foe. This got him into trouble with the clan, and he was forced to resume work under threat of death. His experiments became darker when he resumed them, toying with life and death, breaking nature's laws. A deep hatred of the clan that had abducted him began to brew. He began to disobey orders, to refuse to heal the wounded once more, and death was threatened again. He would have allowed them to kill him if it weren't for the dead dragon that was brought to him, a young female that had been torn apart for war crimes. It was an opportunity to test an experiment that he'd been working on, and to his surprise Emmanuel was able to defy death itself and bring the female to life. Seeing the way she'd been treated was the final straw, and he helped her to escape the clan the night after her resurrection. Over the course of their journey to the future location of their clan, he fell in love with the female, and eventually became her mate. When she became matriarch of the clan, his pride was evident, and he was never happier than on the hatchday of their children. His biggest regret was allowing them to be exalted.
