Shade Afflicted 
Oleum was an aspiring scholar and professor within the Sunbeam Ruins. She practiced with a rogue congregation of scientists and academicians who gathered within an old ruin that lay deep in The Beacon of the Radiant Eye. They tended to work with darker or more taboo research, generally that pertaining to the Shade and it's affect on living beings. Safety was always their first order of business, but that does not mean that accidents cannot happen. When Oleum wanted to test the affect of the Shade goop they had collected on dragonkind, and offered a hand in sacrifice for the knowledge, no one contested her. They carefully covered the rest of her body, hoping the Shade would only affect her one limb. However, what they quickly learned is that there is no magic or substance that can stem the spread of the shade once it attaches to a host. Even after they made the decision to remove her right arm to keep the magic at bay, it managed to infect the wound and spread through her bloodstream, infecting her entire being. They had little other choice than to banish her from both the society and the Sunbeam Ruins after the incident, in an effort to keep their group in order and out of the Lightweaver's eyes. She was forced to wander as a rash, something like a slime mold, grew from beneath her skin and coated her feathers. Eventually flight became impossible, and she was grounded. Awhile still, and it infected her eyes, causing them to grow black and dull, though she is still able to see without issue. She can glide to an extent, but she avoids it, as oftentimes the Shade will drip off her skin if she moves too quickly and infect other areas. The Sheep Clan's Shade den quickly became her home, taken on by Aveugle. Her magic keeps the spread of the mold at bay, and covers her feathers in an array of golden thread, binding the shade to her and halting its slow assault on her body. Due to her origin as a light dragon, her magics leech into Aveugle's and keep her spell active even when the ridgeback is away. She has come to terms with her illness, and has became quick friends with the other Shade dragons taken under the Clan's wings. She records to data from the others and occasional sends it to her old colleges. In return, they have begun researching a cure. She trusts that if any dragon can find a way to reverse Shade magic, it's them. N/A N/A |
