Kue-thae Sol-lor-en

Kyuuthe was born in the totality of a solar eclipse, his first breath taken in the cool darkness of the umbra - the thin line of shadow that marked the darkness of the stolen sun. He was a slight child - something that the midwives attributed to the circumstances of his birth, citing the eclipse as evil magic - but the true mark it left upon him didn’t reveal itself until he could speak. And speak he did. His mother wept, to hear the stories he told - of ancient monsters, creatures beyond comprehension that dwelled between the stars, of dark and beautiful songs echoing from nowhere. His father by turns threatened and begged - but Kyuuthe would not recant, and he could not stop the things he heard. His parents - simple farmers - feared him mad. They kept him hidden from their neighbors, locked away so that the other villagers wouldn’t know of their son’s curse - and Kyuuthe was content enough with that. He spent his days asleep - and at night, he unshuttered his window, and spent dark hours engrossed in the stars. Kyuuthe was half a man when the wizard Akhadin came to the village. Clever as a whip, he could neither read nor write - his mother could not bear to spend the time with him, and his father never learned - but he knew the stars, and they warned him of the enchanter’s coming. That night, Kyuuthe slipped from his window for the first time - down along the roof, and through the dark night to the enchanter’s rooms. Akhadin knew him, of course. He had come seeking a student, in the way of wizards - his own prophetic dreams pointing him to Kyuuthe. The pair left that night, under cover of the new moon, without a word to anyone. Kyuuthe spent his next several years in apprenticeship, the world laid bare to him - no knowledge beyond his reach, if he only asked for it, no study too meager or complex for Akhadin’s tutelage. He learned to read, to write, to code out his observations in arithmetic - and soon, it was Kyuuthe teaching others to understand the messages that the stars has always so willingly spelled for him. Having graduated his apprenticeship, Kyuuthe took up the title of Wizard and left Akhadin’s tower to roam the land. His time spent still in study, he consorts with other beings of inherent magical power in hopes of understanding his own gifts - spending his time amongst dragons, centaurs, and the elves as he hones his magical craft.. |
