Born and raised in a war-torn part of Sornieth, Ialu and his twin sister were often afraid. They never knew their parents; orphaned or abandoned, they'll never know. Though he was the older twin by a few minutes, his sister was always the 'older sibling' between the two. He protected her as best as he could, but she was the one that snuck out of their hidey-hole to find food, and she was the one always jumping in front of him to protect him. He often thought that it was because of his... unusual abilities.

The one good thing about the war was that it made it easy to hide his magic. Ialu could do a lot of things, if only he thought to do them. The only things he found that he couldn't do at all were bringing things back to life and creating life. He could make things dance as if they were alive without ever touching them.

While many consider Ialu to be the ugliest and most expendable of the permababies in the lair, he is actually the glue that holds them together. His magic allows him to let them do the things they want to do and see the things they want to see. He lets Zavijah get closer to the stars from amongst which she's fallen, he allows Incantation to walk through fire, he takes Skull to watch the night across Sornieth, he can sweep Paracelsus into frigid waters and snowstorms without him freezing to death. Dragonfly can go to the water without him, but he lets the rest follow him into it; and after an entire childhood of being ignored, left behind, and forgotten, Dragonfly appreciates the fact that he doesn't have to choose between the water and not being alone anymore.

Ialu has no idea if his twin is still alive or where she is, but he wants to see her again one day.
