Serena is the second-born daughter of King Aether and Queen Lillian. Twin of Airan, she had missed the title of heir by minutes. Until the coronation, Serena had been something of an 'extra'. Serena wouldn't realize what she had missed out on until she grew up, and then the frustration and anger would set in, molding who she was to be. Regardless of this, the two were raised almost identically. Serena and Airan shared lessons, learning all the same things, though for Serena it was more of a precaution if something happened to her twin. There was a key difference between the two; Airan didn't care for being royal. Serena adored it.

Serena took full advantage of her status. She rejoiced in the wealth, the luxury, the worship from the kingdom. Serena seized the cup of royalty and drank greedily from it day after day. She demanded she travel only in carriages, and eat the rarest and most exotic things. It was normal for her siblings and parents to wear gold and gems, but Serena took it to a new extravagance, decking herself out in everything shiny from head to toe. Her gowns were flowing and long. She made herself look royal in every sense of the word.

Serena grew up incredibly spoiled. Her parents didn't actively encourage her love of luxury, but they didn't condemn it either, and perhaps that was what Serena needed that she never got. Thus, Serena's greed and sense of entitlement went unchecked. As was to be expected, this grew into an even more dangerous mind set as she grew older and more independent.

She suddenly realized in her early teens that the throne was something she'd never touch. It subsequently dawned on her that she had just barely missed being heir. For one with an attitude like Serena, this became the fuel to a fire she hadn't known was building in her. She slowly grew more bitter. It wasn't fair to her, why should Airan be ruler just because she had been born first? That easily could've been her, Serena thought. Airan was older by only a minute or two, and she seethed daily in her lessons about this way of inheritance.

Serena and Airan had never had the most amazing relationship, but they were sisters, and loved each other all the same. This suddenly took a turn upon Serena's epiphany. She began to withdraw from her sister, and talk to her less and less. When she did speak to her, she became curter and less patient. Airan wasn't exactly sure what was going on. Vasya became a threat in Serena's eyes, too; their littlest sister had begun to sit in on their lessons. Serena's only comfort was that Vasya was the youngest.

Serena knew she'd never sink low in society, but that wasn't good enough. She became a socialite, gaining friends and allies everywhere she turned. but no matter how hard she tried, her parents never noticed her following, and if they did, they were ushered to Airan to "meet the future queen." No matter how hard Serena tried, she couldn't get ahead of Airan. It just wasn't possible. Serena began to think of Airan as an obstacle, something in her way of what she wanted.

After the coronation, Serena's relationship with Airan and Vasya was completely destroyed. Despite offerings from Vasya to let her stay in the palace, Serena refused, too infuriated and in such a fit of rage she saw it more reasonable to storm out of the castle after yelling at the two. She felt that the throne was her right, and she swore up and down as she boarded a carriage to an ally's home that she'd get it back one day. She even tried to convince her parents to shift the throne to her, but they admitted that their hands were tied - they didn't rule anymore.

As for Calla and Dante, Serena for a time was angry at them - they were remaining in the palace with Vasya, whom Serena now saw as her biggest enemy. After a time her anger cooled; The two younger siblings hadn't spent time social climbing, and thus wouldn't have many places to go until they got married. Serena, on the other hand, had gathered plenty of allies and friends to turn to. At the moment, Serena drifts around the shoulders of the upper crust, promising them things should she get on the throne - but she needs their help to do that.

Serena is planning, and biding her time for a very long time. She is determined to reclaim what she thinks belongs to her, no matter who she has to step on to get there. Unfortunately for most of the nobility, most of them would be caught in Serena's warpath. She doesn't have much influence now. Most of the nobility love Vasya, and find her a very fitting ruler. But she swears one day she'll teach her youngest sister to regret what she did to her - and in Serena's mind, what she did to everyone.
