Lydia is what many would call a free spirit, coming to the clan on a friendly wind. She never revealed exactly why she came to the clan(much to Wisp's chagrin), but Adeline holds that the ghost of Iridium, the clan's long dead librarian, sent Lydia along to take care of the books that had lain mostly abandoned since her death. Whatever the reason, Lydia is a bright spot in the often dreary atmosphere of the clan. When she isn't cheerfully organizing the library back into shape, she is often found entertaining the other clanmembers with song or story, holding a seemingly endless capacity for tales of romance and adventure. Against all odds, she survived the attack on the clan, managing to make it out before the main area burned down. However, Lydia has been traumatized by the events; though she hasn't abandoned her books, she is no longer the bright and happy spirit she once was. Since the attack, she has been found sifting through the library for days on end, forgetting to eat or sleep. She pesters Phillip constantly for any knowledge he may have of youth magic; the ridgeback is very confused by this, as Lydia is younger than him by far, and he's hardly old. Vivec suspects that Lydia is searching for a way to return herself to a hatchling, under the delusion that her suffering will stop if she returns an illusion of innocence to herself. They haven't yet figured out a way to bring this up to Lydia, but hopefully they can intervene before Lydia causes serious harm to herself. Lydia has always had a fondness for hatchlings, but since the attack she has become almost wolflike in her protection of them. She and Operator do not get along on the best of days, and she has confided to Vivec that she believes he wishes to corrupt the clan's newborns with whatever dark magic fills him and the others he called. Thus, she has spent many nights up watching over the nests, enough that she claims to see hatchlings lost in the woods late at night when all are accounted for. Wisp would normally ignore such claims, but Adeline has long whispered of the spirits that live in the Tangled Wood, so she hasn't dismissed Lydia's claims just yet. It may just be that Lydia has clearer sight than most. |
