Cean
Captain of the Guard
Cean has always been the ‘grounding’ dragon, steadfast, the immovable object. She embraces the values of honesty, dedication and dignity and is dearly respected for her clear advice and guidance that she gives to all. Her utilisation of understanding what is right, wrong and socially acceptable lets her bring families and the Clan together. She tries to lead by example, demonstrating dedication and purposeful honesty, and utterly rejects laziness or cheating, especially when it comes to work. Her surety of herself means that even against heavy resistance, she’ll stick to her principles and push an unclouded vision of what is and isn’t acceptable. It’s no wonder that she’s Second in Command to the Clan Guard but it’s not the only reason.

Another reason is that she practically breathes physical prowess. Her earliest memory is sitting watching her clan elders fight and train in the Coliseum and once she heard the crowd roar in approval, at a particularly risky move in the arena, she knew that was the type of respect she wanted to earn. So, she trained, every day, for weeks. Some nights she’d flop into her nest in her old clan’s lair, too exhausted to even move into a more comfortable position. But it payed off. She qualified for the Coliseum, worked her way through the arenas but… the roar of the crowd… it felt empty to her as she progressed. Sure, at first it was exhilarating, the cheering and the confetti but then it slowly became hollow, the chanting changing to muted groaning, the confetti just becoming scraps of paper. It took her a while to realise why everything had dulled.

It wasn’t fulfilling, there was something missing. She just didn’t know what.

So she packed up her armour and bid her clan farewell before venturing out into Sornieth to find her passion. She passed through many a realm and met creatures of all sizes and alignments but Cean struggled to find a place where she felt like she truly belonged.

That was, until she found the Lemon Light Plateau. Or rather, it found her.

She’d been wandering around the Light territory when she stumbled across a teacher and his hatchling students. Her sudden appearance interrupted the lesson and even before she could speak, the teacher was moving to protect the younglings, putting his body in the way and shielding them with his wings. He wasn’t snarling at her yet but she was keen to diffuse the situation.

Once she’d explained why she was there, the teacher offered to take her to his clan matriarch. She accepted the invitation and then met one of the most compassionate dragon she'd ever come across. Cecelia, the Matriarch, draped in silks and with the companion of a dove, welcomed her readily into the clan lair, assuring Cean that she could stay as long as she wanted.

Originally, Cean had only intended to stay for a couple days, a week at most, before she left to wander again but this plan had quickly fallen into shambles.

She totally and unequivocally fell in love with Quasar, the hatchlings’ teacher. His unwavering devotion to the children, his loyalty to the Clan and his quick wit made Cean practically weak at the knees. So she stayed, wanting to find out more about Quasar and the clan's history.

When Cecelia heard of her decision to stay, she advised the Wildclaw to go speak with Ori, the Captain of the Guard, saying an ex-Coliseum fighter like herself would thrive as a member of the Guard. The matriarch had been right, as she often was, Cean truly flourished as a protector of the lair. Her patrols were flexible, allowing her to see Quasar and spend more time with devoted hatchling teacher. She would often sit in his lessons and delight in the way the children learned through their play, just to be near the other Wildclaw.
