ROSALIND
Colress did have a few children, before finally settling down with his mate, N. He adored his first three hatchlings with all of his heart, and swore to protect them through anything and everything. He loved visiting them at night and nursing them until their cute little faces had dozed off to sleep. He never wanted it to end, and he awaited the day where he would watch them soar off into the skies. Unfortunately for him, that day would never come. It was a dark and dreary night when Colress had dreamed that a guardian with piercing red eyes had stolen his children, carrying them all by their necks as they screamed for their father in pain. He quickly woke up and ran to his clutch, only to discover that all of his hatchlings had been taken without a trace. In absolute fear and terror, Colress flew around the lair, yelling their names. He eventually went to Ghetsis about it, and he said that several grunts will look for them. Days turned into months, and months turned into years, and there was no sign of his hatchlings. Colress was devastated. |

It was awhile before Colress had another clutch, but lo and behold, he had three more children, and he swore he would never let them leave his sight. He kept his children near him whenever he slept, and one of his most trusted grunts took care of them when he was doing his research. One day, while he was studying how to make snapper wings more aerodynamic, he ran across something he never even could think of. There was a large book in Ghetsis’s den, marked in large letters STOLEN AND EXALTED GRUNTS. Of course Colress knew that Team Plasma steals hatchlings, but it was the given part he was curious about. It was the second half of the book, and it was very small, only with six names on it, separated by a few years. Variable. Exponent. His eyes widened. Carbon. He was afraid to read the rest, marked for the next day. Watson. Crick. Rosalind. Colress grew angrier and more fearful as he read the names, and he decided to take action. Of course, he couldn’t confront Ghetsis about it, that would be a one way ticket to get kicked out of the clan, but he chose a different route. He marked the names of his newest clutch, and guarded them fiercely through the night, and refused to work, preferring to take care of them. This had worked out almost perfectly for him. Almost. One day, when he watched his children laugh and play, he felt himself getting sleepier and sleepier, despite him being wide awake a few minutes ago. Aware of what was going on, he quickly grabbed his children and hid them with him in his nest, but when he woke, only Rosalind remained. He held her tightly in his claws, and he promised that she would never face the same fate her five sibling had met, and this time he would keep it. Rosalind grew up into a bright and curious pearlcatcher, just like her father, and Colress taught her everything he knew. With a searing passion in science and her father’s work, Ghetsis proclaims that she will eventually take her father’s place when he retires. She honestly can’t wait for the opportunity. |
