Hakawai is sweet and shy and kind of passive. He has trouble communicating with a lot of his clanmates in Wandering Gale, and he's sort of withdrawn since he's had a hard time settling in. He likes plants and tending to growing things, and is constantly a little agog at the lush surroundings he's found himself in compared to the harder environment of fire lands.

He has pretty much moved in to Oriole's greenhouses. Oriole has taken a kindly if distant notice of him and encouraged him to make himself comfortable there. This has helped Hakawai feel a little less alone, and he tends to several hives full of bees there, making sure they're healthy and pollinating Oriole's flowers, and harvesting their honey on occasion. Glass bottles full of Hakawai's "liquid gold" are popular gifts when it comes to showing favor or making concessions to other clans, as the honey he gathers is of the highest quality. Hakawai has devoted himself to becoming an even better beekeeper and spends a lot of time figuring out how to make the honey even more delicious and sweet, and infuse it with other flavors too. His paws are usually a bit sticky with honey and there's almost always some caught in his fur. It's not uncommon at all to see bees just crawling around on his ruff, licking up the honey sticking there.

Hakawai has also figured out how to use his fire magic to cook. His salmon with honey glaze is absolutely to die for, and of course his specialties all use some honey in the final concoction. He's always thinking up new marinades and recipes for meat, but he's still very shy so he gets a little tongue-tied when accepting praise and tends to flee quickly from the spotlight unless he has Basan or Osprey or both of them backing him up.

When it comes to the latter, Basan is one of his closest friends and his mate, and they are devoted to each other even if Basan is much fiercer and gets frustrated with him sometimes. Hakawai was also pretty scared of Osprey for a long time, even though he was one of the dragons set up to keep her in check if anything ever happened. Recently, he's gotten over that more and talks to her more. It's so much a relief to find another dragon who understands humming, besides the clan's small coatl population, that he's overcome the fact that she's terrifying. It helps that she never laughs at him and is extremely patient when it comes to letting him work out his thoughts and slowly talk his way to his own conclusions. Since he's started hunting with Osprey and Basan his fire magic has become much more refined and powerful, which has improved all his other applications of it. He's slowly becoming more confident in himself due to these strange friendships. Being put into a hunting pack with those two is pretty much the best thing that ever happened to him, and Juniper, who stirred in her claws and made the whole thing happen, is pretty proud of herself for that.
