Deedee | Darling | In-Denial-Mystic ╭━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━╮ "But it couldn’t be magic..." - HESPERIDES TREADBLOSSOM - ╰━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━╯ Hesperides is an ironic persona if there ever was one. Her parents, traveling entertainers, had rival connections with magic. Her father was a phony, all smoke and mirrors, “yes sir”s, “no ma’ams”, and “don’t look aways”. On the other hand, her mother was a true hedgewitch with the power to brew up mysteries and whisper words of power. Hesperides—or Deedee as she prefers to be called, has a good deal of her mother’s magic in her, but without instruction in it, she maintains that she is as mundane as her father. Perhaps she knows how even false magic can manipulate others and convince them of things they would not otherwise believe. Any of the mages can recognize the magic in her a mile away, but she would not be convinced of it. No sir, that pond was crystalized when she got here and of course that tree just happened to bloom when she touched it. Either way, Deedee’s magic is benign and largely fueled by emotion; it comes from the windswept plateau and works its way through her actions like a gentle breeze. She does not consciously control it, but one might note the slight shimmer in her green eyes when she brews a tea that will ease a sore throat within minutes. The slight thrum of power that precedes the opening of late spring buds on the trees when she passes is not a voluntary direction of magic, it is simply her subconscious desire to change the world just a little bit. Although she objects heavily, the clan has given her the title “Treadblossom” for the ways the flowers seem to bloom in her wake. However demure her magic is, it speaks nothing to her character. Deedee Treadblossom is fiery and outspoken most of the time, although she does get shy around those who intimidate her. She has a passion for countless hobbies even if she is hopeless at many of them. When Forge is cooking, she can depend on Deedee to be an eager apprentice in mastering the latest recipe. If Evangeline is weaving warm blankets for winter, Deedee can be found entangling the yarn beyond hope. Somehow no matter her failings, Evie never finds a reason to expel Deedee from her den. Less domestically, Deedee spends a good amount of time in the coliseum, hunting and honing her combat skills. Deedee is a scratch fighter, and her magic rarely surfaces in the field, but one may note that her team mates’ wounds heal infinitesimally faster when she is with them. When she returns home, nothing cheers her up faster than a hot brew of mint and chamomile tea with her love, Barty. The Archmage and the in-denial-mystic may seem like an odd couple, but a moment spent with them would show that their love runs deep. While Deedee has no interest in magic for herself, she adores watching Barty practice his spells and add to his research notes with deft spidery strokes of the quill. As Deedee suffers from a tendon formation that prevents her from learning to write, Barty dutifully records her work for her when poetry or novel-writing takes her fancy. He happily practices many of her hobbies with her, although to her good natured chagrin, Barty seems to be one of those dragons who excels at anything he tries. Besides Barty, Deedee can be friends with anyone she meets. She can hold a conversation on nearly any subject, even one she knows next to nothing about, and she considers no member of the clan too trivial to get to know. From the tiniest hatchling, to the oldest elder, anyone in Clan LockCharge can call Deedee a friend. It is this open and trusting nature that first sparked Barty's love for Deedee, afterall not everyone can be so comfortable with Barty's powerful, and at times, unpredictable magic. Barty hopes to eventually interest Deedee in magic, and although she would never admit it to him, he succeeds to an extent. She loves watching his nimble claws carve neat rows of runes into tablets, and she adores the various astrological charts he has draped across the ceiling of their living space. In turn, he appreciates the little touches of whimsy that Deedee adds to the atmosphere. The old clay teapot from which she prepares an evening brew, the bamboo chimes that play eerie melodies on breezy nights, and the numerous crystals that hang before the windows all mark the presence of Deedee in his life. In the evenings, he helps her to catch fireflies to hang around the den, as Barty knows the reflections of their light off her many crystals bring an easy smile to her face. |
