As a child, Bryony could barely walk in a straight line without teetering. This stopped being charming very quickly; to say he grew like a weed would be inaccurate unless weeds grew up into boulders. He grew very large very fast and his clumsiness became a danger to everyone around him. But he was never the harmful type: though he learned quickly that his size was strength, and he was delighted by the admiration he gained through feats of power and his ability to protect small things that could not protect themselves, he couldn't stand the idea that he could inadvertently harm innocent things—familiars scuttling about his lair, his dear fae friends. His dedication to improving his coordination eventually made him fantastically elegant. Despite his heavy footsteps, Bryony's movements are controlled without even having to think about it, and he is amazingly nimble when he puts conscious efforts into them.

As he always has been, Bryony is gentle; he is slow and soft in his actions and words, and fond of small things like Fae, cute animals, and flowers. At the same time, he doesn't devalue his strength: he has always been something of a show-off, impressing others by pushing and crushing and lifting. He participates in friendly spars between his lair's stronger dragons, and has been in far less friendly fights—though never unless provoked or protecting. In general, Bryony is very laid-back and passive; rarely, if ever, an instigator.

Though friendly and acquainted with almost all he interacts with, he has very few close friends. Bryony has attracted one dear companion: a tiny glowing pocketmouse, pocket mouse; when his thunderous footsteps frightened a pack of predators away from her, she, a fearless creature, immediately latched onto him. This little friendship came into being just as Bryony's coordination was improving. While any other creature might have been shooed away for fear of accidental injury, her glowing made her easier to see and move around. Bryony calls her "Pipsqueak" and she responds to the name with—of course—cheerful squeaking noises.
