Biography
--Head Technician--
While Lazer originally acted as a guard, his aptitude for technical work makes him the perfect technician. Lazer found a broken companion golem while scavenging in his home realm, and brought it back. Shadowblood approved, and told him to do what he needed to make the mechanical object function again.
For the longest time, Lazer has remained a technician, though he does still occasionally leave to go hunting with Nightshred. His mate, the head weaver, Unity, sometimes assists him with his technological endeavors. Lazer is stubborn when it coms to his technology, and no matter how hard something is to fix or wire, he never gives up until the task is finished, and finished well.
His Livewire Grizzly assists him in his work, acting as a mobile powerpack.
Mate: Isis
There are a core of dragons in Clan Dark-Blood who have called the clan's caverns home longer than almost any other. Few can claim the honor of being among Shadowblood's most trusted friends, and almost all of them are certainly among the oldest. Included in this group is Lazer, Clan Dark-Blood's tenacious technician.
He was once a Guardian, strong and stalwart in the face of danger, and he arrived on the clan's stoop as part of his Search. There was something nestled in his heart, a hum of magic that drew him to the cool, winding caves, and to ignore that draw would have been akin to sacrilege.
It took time to kindle fully, though, and while Lazer waited, he made himself useful. At Shadowblood's behest, he was among the team of dragons who assisted in carving out new chambers for a clan soon to grow, scraping great heaps of earth aside in search of new caverns to conquer. He also lent his strength to protecting the fledgling clan's borders from ready usurpers. While not the most impressive warrior around at the time, still young and inexperienced beyond the matter of his Search, it nonetheless aided the clan when he threw his weight around on Dark-Blood's behalf.
Finally, though, his Search came to fruition with the hatching of Shadowblood and Freyja's first clutch. The clan leaders welcomed four heirs into the world, and the first among them was Nightshred, Lazer's Charge. The recognition was instant, at least for Lazer. From the moment Nightshred broke the shell, something shifted in Lazer's heart, falling into place with a certainty he had never known before. To this day, he still lacks the words to describe it in full, because how can you explain to another soul what such a sudden, illuminating moment of connection is like, especially when it struck before Lazer and Nightshred formally met?
But such is the bond between Guardian and Charge, so Lazer threw his entire being into it. When Nightshred and Arlanna began their training in the local woods, eager to prove themselves capable defenders of the clan, Lazer accompanied them in an effort to hone his own skills. And when Nightshred began to embrace more and more the expectations of the clan heir, Lazer inserted himself into the role of adviser, tempering Nightshred's impulse with solid, unobstructed reason.
In that time, a great many things changed, not least of which was Lazer's role. As Nightshred grew into a capable young dragon, he needed Lazer's hovering presence less and less, to the degree that he sometimes viewed Lazer as a hindrance and more of a nanny than a protector. The thought stung, to be sure, but Lazer also realized how it must look to visiting clans to see the heir of Clan Dark-Blood project great dedication and talent, only to be watched over by a dragon twice his size at all times. For the benefit of the entire clan, Lazer withdrew, one eye still on his Charge, but one eye toward the future.
In the time to come, three things turned the course of his life upside-down. First among them was the Ridgeback scroll he obtained. He used its magic to set himself free from his Charge, a gesture of respect to Nightshred, but a chance at freedom for himself. No longer did he feel the need to follow the heir everywhere, just in case, and no longer did Nightshred feel crowded by his presence. They were able to go separate ways.
Lazer also discovered an affinity for electricity in this time, and became the clan's technician. For a while, it was lonely work, but with the arrival of Derya, a focused, confident Fae, the technical aspects of Lazer's life became all the more engaging and exciting, taking up most of his time.
These days, though he also makes room in his schedule for Isis, his latest mate. Once, he was mated to Unity, a weaver who had once been a Spiral. Her wanderlust spirit led her away though, on entirely amicable terms, and in the time since, Clan Dark-Blood's new weaver, Isis, occupies his heart. She makes for a lively, spontaneously contrast to his down-to-earth mannerisms, and her experience with fine detail in tapestries and the like comes in handy when Lazer is too large to address a technical issue and Derya too small. They make a fine, loving team, and though the journey to reach this point in his life has been long, Lazer would hardly trade it for the world.
