BERA

Bera is an extremely strong empath. She can sense the emotions of dragons yards away without even concentrating. If she focuses, she can sometimes even influence them; sooth the frightened, comfort the broken, and calm the angry. However, such gifts come at a cost. Bera cannot distinguish her own feelings from those around her. She struggles to figure out if she is actually cheerful, or if Alexina is simply rubbing off on her. At first, she thought this a fine trade. What is a little discomfort compared to easing others' pain? she reasoned. But as more dragons joined the clan, she began to see exactly what a toll this would take. Each new face carried their own burden. Sometimes it was a past tragedy, sometimes it was a constant rage. Every one was unique, and every one simply compounded onto each other, creating a harsh mixture of pain and pleasure that scraped across her mind like claws screeching across glass.

Eventually, that glass shattered.

Bera broke, the conflicting emotions battering her already fragile psyche. When it finally became to much, she collapsed, screaming and laughing and sobbing. Witchy did what she could, but her treatments did little to dull the many feelings. Eventually, Sleet guided the distressed skydancer as far from the clan as she could, deep into Viridian Labyrinth, where they finally found some respite. The motherly tundra's concern was strong enough to block out most other thoughts, and gave Bera an anchor to hold onto. During the weeks of attention, Bera never once uttered a word. She stayed as mute as if she had been born so, and Sleet began to worry she would never speak again.

It took some time, and tender care on Sleet's part, but eventually Bera recovered enough to briefly withstand the onslaught that returning home would bring. A ways from the main territory of the clan, they met Ethereal. After a delicate discussion with Bera, the three agreed that it would be best to remove Bera's abilities altogether. Ethereal used his potent magic to shield Bera's mind, and permanently block her from the principle ability of skydancers.

Now, Bera tends a garden, barely a shell of her previous elegance. One habit did carry over; she still collect butterflies, tending them, and making sure they receive a perfect diet from her manicured crops. They love her, and flock around her like a living aura of beauty. She can often be seen sitting on a small bench, surrounded by her hoard of faithful butterflies, smiling serenely as she looks over her garden.
