Azar is the second-in-command to Tacitus, and the apple in his eye. She was born of an affair between an employee of a travelling earth caravan and a wandering spiral in the fierce wilderness of the Thunderhead Savannah. The snapper with the caravan was thankful she'd only had one egg, but ashamed of her weakness for the spiral - he left immediately after their meeting, and burdened by shame and secrecy she left the caravan in the dead of night. The snapper did her best to take care of her egg in the harsh wilderness, but eventually she succumbed - just as the egg hatched. The hatchling should have died that day, in the cold savannah night with nobody to care for her egg but the dead mother encircling it. But that night, the Stormcatcher himself took pity - a lightning strike pierced the shell and Azar was born, slightly early, slightly weak, but healthy. Also from the strike emerged a small, jittery figure - a lightning sprite named Echo whose sole duty was to protect Azar and ensure she survived and grew to serve the god who granted the hatchling life. Echo and Azar wandered the shifting expanse restlessly as she grew up, her spiral instincts encouraging her to spread her wings and fly swiftly around with little care or regard for safety. Thankfully, Echo mostly protected her - he liasoned with the beastclans she angered, taught her their language, and attempted to scholar her on the ways of the Stormcatcher. Alas, she was not one to follow the rigid Stormcatcher's way - and as the god eventually realised this, Echo's powers began to weaken until one day he was unable to protect her when she got onto the wrong side of an angry rockback charger. The charger trampled her and left her for dead. With what was left of Echo's powers the two of them managed to crawl into the nearest cavern - which fortunately for them was home to a young Ridgeback. He helped cure her; replacing her mangled arms with mechanical prosthetics which once again allowed her to fly. With Echo powerless, she chose to stay with Tacitus and train to become a magical healer, to one day help her sprite regain his powers.  Graphics by Oisem, art by me. |
