Balthy came to the clan after an unfortunate clash within the Ashfall Waste reduced his home (and family) to rubble at the bottom of the sea. Washing ashore in Lightning territory, exhausted and lost, he began the treacherous and long journey home to the Waste. During his travels he came across the Wind Spiral Cappriccio caught up in a raging tempest much larger and more violent than either was able to handle. The pair found shelter in a cave at the last minute and weathered out the storm, unaware how close they were to the Lightning clan ETC B-4, and were discovered by the clan's patrols after the storm subsided.

Though they were initially treated with great suspicion by Thorn, he allowed them to stay and recover comfortably until he determined they were not involved with espionage efforts against the flight. Balthazar and Capriccio grew into an inseparable pair, spending nearly every waking moment together. They decided to stay at ETC B-4 until they reached a decision about where to go next, though they've been there long enough to become permanent fixtures.

Balthazar is great in both stature and voice, with his booming tone often able to be heard clear across the mesa. He has strong opinions and you're going to hear them god dammit whether you like it or not. Despite his apparent gruffness he's a big softy and can often be found doting on younger dragons (or Capriccio). Balthazar's existence as an outsider currently prevents him from being involved with more sensitive matters in the clan, but he more than earns his keep through scavenging and patrol duty.
