N E E D L E
overview Needle spends most of his time aloft, away from the living spaces of the dirigible, up in the rigging. He rarely comes down except to eat, but he's so quiet that nobody really notices. Zyphira usually doesn't like to take shy, quiet dragons (she feels that they make for a depressing atmosphere) but she couldn't turn Needle away. He was just so charming, and quietly, mysteriously handsome, dressed in shiny, fancy robes and with his pockets full of magic trinkets and charms. Also were his talents with knots and balloons, just perfect for a rigger (the last one was quite old and died some time ago, and the ropes have been getting horribly tangled since). He stays in the rigging, in his own little space, a small platform hidden in the ropes and balloons and concealed by magic wards. Female dragons often sneak up into those aeries looking for a glimpse of Needle at work, but find nothing. You might catch a glimpse of him at breakfast or dinner, snatching bites of raw red salmon. He works his magic wards so that he isn't exactly invisible (invisibility spells are banned aboard the airship) but instead rather difficult to notice. His thick, dark scales seem to be even darker, and less shiny, merging into the shadows, and his robes and jewelry take on a strange sheen that glares up at your eyes in the sunshine, forcing you to look away, and by the time you look back, he's vanished. He's mysterious, and so very quiet, yet his bearing is regal and his accessories are shining and expensive. Nobody (except Luxuria) knows where he came from or where he's been. Rumors fly thick; he's a prince cast off his throne, a mighty mage hiding from deadly enemies, a criminal fleeing for his liberty. But nobody really knows.  |
