Biography
Seth
Diplomat
Diplomat
|
Seth is well-respected in the circles in which they are known, though possibly the kind of respect that follows horrified fascination. They've made use of their training, talents, and natural empathic abilities to get in good with some of the most dangerous and temperamental groups on Sornieth, and they appear to have absolutely no qualms about working with any of them no matter how immoral. In the course of their diplomatic duties they demonstrate a remarkable facility with words, an ability to put a positive spin on just about anything and obscure the darker side of what they can't, and often to seem as though they're giving away more than they really are. They try to avoid making promises they don't intend to keep, but that doesn't keep them from employing a weaselly phrase to sound like they're offering something they're not, and they'll use their knowledge of others' emotions to manipulate them optimally. In writing they are somewhat more straightforward, and tend to rely more on impeccable manners and a detailed knowledge of the resources at their disposal to do their job effectively. Among those they trust or aren't trying to strike a deal with, Seth is much less...polite, which can be something of a shock to those who know them only as a smooth-tongued negotiator. They can be blunt and rude, with their sentences peppered with casual swearing, and a touch more smug than anyone likes, though most will admit they have a right to it. While every word they utter as a diplomat is calculated, when off-duty they're much more relaxed and straightforward, and usually abandon their more manipulative tendencies. Words are only a weapon if you're using them against the enemy, after all. No one is quite sure where Seth's true morals fall; they'll brush off such questions whenever the subject arises, and the pattern of clans they've worked with offers no clues. Their philosophy is to align themself wholeheartedly with the ethics of whoever they currently represent. This fluidity is what allows them to maintain such a wide range of connections, though some have been allowed to lapse due to fundamental differences with a clan Seth has been involved with in the past. They have a terrible weakness for baked goods of all kinds, and once or twice someone has tried to bribe them to divulge clan secrets with an offer of exquisitely tiny cakes. Of course they'd never do such a thing, but they'll certainly accept the cakes, and then spend the next hour telling their benefactor all kinds of outrageous lies wrapped up in language that makes them sound believable. Everyone needs a hobby. |
