Biography
Portobello
Highwayman
Bandit
Forward Scout, light infantry, swordsman.
Bio by Disillusionist! :D
Portobello had quite a reputation, and it wasn’t a good one. “So you’re a robber baron?” the adolescent drakes asked impishly. He only flashed an indulgent smile and said, a bit deprecatingly, “Please, children, ‘robber baron’ sounds so unsavory! I prefer the term ‘financial equalizer’.”
As a child, Portobello excelled in mathematics and was apprenticed to his clan’s merchants. He soon noticed how...disparate the distribution of wealth was. Why did that clan have so much treasure, when his clan clearly needed more? Couldn’t they be a bit more generous? Couldn’t they...share?
The elders of his clan were incredulous. Of course they could not share! Their wealth was hard-won; never mind what other dragons...What? Fairness? What was Portobello talking about? This was business! There was no place for such niceties in the world of business!
Not long later, Portobello left his clan. He had seen prosperity and comfort in other lairs, but knew his clan would never have that. He only wanted to share in that prosperity and comfort. Was that so wrong?
It was, apparently. He and other like-minded rascals were soon enemies of the law. They waylaid affluent travelers, politely doffing their hats before divesting their targets—very gently and considerately—of their “spare change”. The rich drakes did not take so kindly to their wallets losing weight, and soon they were howling for his head.
Other dragons sang his name like a hymn. They were enticed by Portobello’s way of life and by Portobello himself: He was clever, he was beguiling, he could charm the gold from vaults. Many drakes flocked to his banner. They were all disenchanted with their lives and wished to live in prosperity and comfort, as their leader did. “Portobello Road!”—that was their battle cry, the name of the robber baron’s territory, where wealth was available to anyone willing to play his game.
Why did he stop? There are many theories: It was guilt, it was fear, or perhaps it was merely boredom....Whatever the reason, one day, he appeared near the Behemoth with a caravan of splendid goods. “I’m an antiques dealer, here to bring you the wonders of the world!” he proclaimed. He always promised a good price, yet other dragons were astonished to find themselves paying more: “Why, it’s taxes, don’t you know? You gotta pay value-added tax!”
He inveigled his way into the Oakheart Clan: Portobello, slick city drake that he was, believed that these forest-dwellers were simple folk, less likely to pry into his checkered past. He’d also made a number of enemies, but they probably wouldn’t chase him now that he was living out here in the sticks.
He says he’s now reformed, but valuable objects continue to mysteriously turn up in his possession. He always claim he’s reluctant to sell them....Keep asking, and he’ll let you have them—for the right price. It’s the right price for him, certainly. But is it right for you?

Subspecies: Mushroom Keepers
original pairing
Toxicity Type: none, edible Bred By: Korynia |
Mushrooms are a fungus that thrive on decay and give a once living object new life. Mushrooms spread their lives in the form of spores, gathering on whatever may suit them. Sometimes it's earth, sometimes another decaying thing, other times a dragon. Some dragons make the perfect habitat for mushrooms to grow. They'll have skin tough as bedrock but softer than the most fertile soil-a gift from the Gladekeeper she gives out very often. Eventually spores collected on some nearby hatchlings and created the first generation of dragons that later became known as Mushroom Keepers, or another popular name, Mushroom Faeries. The mushrooms grew into the dragons' skin and depending on the composition of the soil-like skin determines the colour of the mushrooms. Pale, brown and neutral means more plant based and mineral rich skin. Anything bright, such as blues, reds, and oranges mean much more protein and can those mushrooms secrete toxins into the air in the form of dust. Mushroom Keepers have hardened nails and paws for digging into any surface. A keen sense of smell to detect mushrooms by scent. Lastly they can see in different spectrum of light as some mushrooms glow in Ultra-Violet light, sometimes Infrared, the list goes on. Finding mushroom colonies of any size must be easy since these Keepers are the only ones who propagate the mushrooms. More mushroom colonies means that whatever they are breaking down happens faster to return nutrients into the soil. More nutrient rich soil means more plants, more pollinators, more life. Most Mushroom Keepers tend to be patience and nursing, tending to others' needs and getting lost in their own thoughts. They often have their own gardens and are employed to help others with their own. Most of the time though, Keepers work across Sornieth propagating, pollinating and spreading new plant life along the way. In a way, mushrooms are the only thing the Plaquebringer and Gladeskeeper can agree on. Anything mushrooms grow on tend to break down and decay while also bringing life. |
