Artemisa
Matriarch

OVERVIEW
plaguemidsmall.png
A dragoness of deceiving beauty, the Matriarch is as pretty to look at as she is dangerous. Beneath her pearlescent coat of scales veins full of noxious blood flow in shifting shades of red and purple. The rippling pattern resembles the warning coloration of a poisonous critter and its purpose is just the same but unlike a dart frog’s poison which lethal effects can be stopped with a masterfully brewed antidote Artemisa’s blood mortal sympthoms have thus far proved incurable.

Despite possessing such a clear physical advantage Artemisa hasn't allowed herself to slack in regards of her combat prowess and mental capability. It is a point of pride for her to prove wrong anyone who would challenge her rule by putting into question her suitability for the role. No challenge is turned down if the opponent is deemed worthy.

"An usurper some say yet her rule remains absolute and you will obey."
Unlike the grand majority of her species Artemisa has learned to collaborate with the various individuals under her rule, choosing to build and preserve instead of roam and deplete. She has been wise to acknowledge her own shortcomings and find aid in allies whose strengths compliment her own. This doesn’t mean that she is lenient with the hierarchy in any way. She frequently asserts her dominance in a traditional manner, through physical displays and aggressive outbursts whenever someone steps out of line. Her bearing commands respect and her speech although infrequently heard is authoritative and to the point. One would never guess now that she wasn’t born into a Leadership role.

Matriarch
"The Usurper Queen, The Twice Born, The Untouchable One"

It is said that rulers of Clans are born as such, shaped by the great wyrms to lead their denizens and faithfully carry out their will. These creatures are supposed to be born without parents as daughters and sons to their element, with allegiance to no-one but their creators…

Artemisa would come to defy this belief by ripping the crown out of one such righteous ruler’s grasp. Make no mistake – the latest Queen is no filthy thief, the weight of the title only befalling her as a wayward consequence that came after a coup in which she became the principal enactor, a rebellion triggered by the cruelty and madness of former Matriarch Kaeli.

Quote:
REBIRTH

The pain, this she remembered well. That and the dreadful realization of her impending demise when she was shoved onto the bubbling cauldron of disease and calamity.

Before the burning liquid reached her eyes she saw it, a crown of boney spines and a pair of glowing red eyes. Those traits stuck with her even as the other details of the picture were corrupted by the searing agony that came from the sistematic destruction and reshaping of all her tissues. To this day trying to focus on that image puts her brain under enormous strain, the pain engraved into her memory seizing her body once more as if in warning to the repercussions of knowing the truth. It doesn't matter anymore, she has stopped trying to remember the events previous to her rebirth, the truth hidden in them inconsequential now that she has fully embraced her new purpose in this world.

What happened after, however, hasn't managed to elude her remembrance.

A sudden gasp, her collapsed lungs making a gross sound as the sacks were forcefully inflated, like rubber membranes that had been stuck together were being pulled apart. Liquid that felt like acid still lingered within her throat, making her cough and gasp repeatedly, her frame shaking violently as she retched up the glowing green substance.

Several minutes passed as she struggled to regain some control over herself in spite of how foreign her flesh and bones felt. Such was the disarray of her thoughts that she didn’t notice the looming presence of three other dragons until they were close enough to smell. A roar rumbled in her throat weak at first but growing in ferocity as she recoiled, wary of these strange presences. They didn’t flinch and instead lowered their heads in a show of reverence that startled Artemisa. Upon closer inspection she noticed the distinctive markings and colours. These were necromancers, priests and priestesses of the Plaguebringer herself.

Too many questions swirled in her head like a raging storm but in the end one of these fabled creatures, the eldest of the bunch, spoke first.

“You are now reborn daughter of the Plague Mother. Only the strong survive~ And like a chorus the other two necromancers repeated these last words.
