Biography

Archie
Cartographer

His full name is Archibald, but that is waaaay too long.

Cheerful and a chatterbox, Archie is always looking for ways to help his clanmates. Especially fond of hatchlings, he helps the Hatchery Caretaker, Momma, to care for the clan's young. His main job is being the clan's cartographer though, creating accurate (and much needed) maps of formerly unexplored areas, based on information gathered by the exploration party. As this is a fairly important task, Archie is a well-respected individual inside the clan.

He is in need of harmony and dislikes conflict and fighting. He also seems to be scared of everything bigger than him, but thanks to his impressive size (even by Imperial standards), this is hardly a problem.

Even though they are complete opposites, Archie is best friends with Rapid, whom he seeks out at every opportunity. In fact, they are so close it has several of the other dragons talking, but while Rapid is slightly embarrased about this, Archie seems to be completely clueless about what everyone's problem is.
Rapid is also the only one noticing the subtle changes in Archie's behaviour once in a while, the restlessness, the hollowness in his laugh, the solemn expression his face takes whenever he thinks no one is looking. Archie seems to hide something, but Rapid knows better than to ask. For Archie would again just smile a smile not reaching his eyes and tell him he's fine, like so many times before.

355.png Archie's familiar, a still unnamed Hippojay, joined the clan when Rapid helped out the fishing party once, as he gained interest in Rapid's own familiar, a Hippogryph female named Darkie. He has tried courting her ever since (usually with only moderate success), and as Darkie is always with Rapid, and Rapid is always with Archie, somehow those two ended up forming their own duo. Ever since then Archie has ben thinking long and hard about a good name for him, but he can't seem to come up with anything. For now he only calls him 'bud'.... and sometimes 'stupid pea-brained horse-chicken', as the familiar tends to make a mess out of his workplace when bored.

Lately, many have noticed Archie stealing glances at Rapid, and most have recognized the reason behind them as the Imperial being in love. Yet offers of advice and support, or even mentions of his crush in general, just rile him up, making the usually softspoken Archie act uncharacteristically snappy and defensive. Alfie tried to speak to him once, trying to convey to him that keeping his feelings a secret will only cause him suffering, only for Archie to have a breakdown, sobbing into the older Tundra's fur and telling him of his fear of Rapid rejecting him, of being disgusted at him, of their friendship being destroyed by it. And Alfie understood, telling the Imperial that he wouldn't push him anymore, and that he would always be there.
Later that night, Rapid found him, still sad and depressed. Without asking questions, he just settled next to his friend, gently tucking him under his wing, and for the first time since realizing his feelings, Archie allowed himself to enjoy the closeness and warmth, slowly drifting off into sleep.
Someday, he would be able to tell him.

Answering your call, an Imperial of impressive size leaves the lair, clad in red, and with a cleaver the size of a fullgrown Mirror dragon dangling from their side. After a moment you realize there is a second Imperial following them, hard to see in their dark clothes, their face hidden under a wolf cape. Silently, they find their way to where you are standing, the one clad in red lowers their head, and... the next moment you are looking in a pair of gentle green eyes.
"Well, hello there!", the Imperial greets you cheerfully. "Welcome to Clan Arenite! Oh, yes, a gift!". He scurries over to a huge pile of differently wrapped bundles, apparently compiled by different members of the clan (while the creepy wolf-dragon watches you silently). Some bundles are accurately wrapped and highly decorated, while others... well, it's all about the contents anyway, right?
Red Riding Hood pauses for a moment, glancing back at you, and then picks one out of the pile. "This one. Yeah, this one should be good!" he hands you the package with a smile. "Hope you like it! Happy Halloween!" The wolf-dragon gives you a nod. "Have fun." he says silently, turning around and following his companion back to the lair.

((This is written out of the perspective of your welcoming dragon. Now that I recieved a few messages I think that is probably considered weird, AAAAAAAH I'm sorry.))

You are close to the exit of your lair when suddenly, the beating of enormous wings reaches your ears. You barely have a chance to raise your gaze to the skies before two enourmous shapes drop down, landing close.

Soon you recognize them as a pair of Imperials, clad in costumes of red and black. The figures remind you of a fairytale told to hatchlings, but you are pretty sure the protagonist in that one did not have a cleaver dangling from their side.

For a second, the Imperials seem to exchange some hushed words. Then they come closer. Red Riding Hood(?) with a spring to their step, Big Bad Wolf(???) more careful, prowling like the beast they are embodying (whether they practiced for this or it's just their normal way of moving, you are not sure).

Red Riding Hood comes right up to you, while their wolfish companion stays a bit further away. You finally get a good look at their face and are greeted by a pair of gentle green eyes, shimmering with excitement.

"Hi! I'm Archie!", the cheerful Imperial chirps. There is a small moment of silence, after which Big Bad Wolf gets smacked in the shoulder by a swift motion of Archie's tail.

"Ow! Okay, okay!" Archie's companion growls. Then he sighs.
"I'm Rapidwing", he finally introduces himself. Then he murmurs something which suspiciously sounds like 'And I'd rather be at home!', but surely you misheard that.
Archie just chuckles and keeps smiling like a ray of sunshine.
