"Well, if it can be thought, it can be done. A problem can be overcome."

History :

Born at the very edge of Dragonhome, between the flowing rivers of the Viridian Labyrinth and the the blackness of the Tangled Wood, Falenas was always one who loved to listen. And as the daughter of a local tavern owner, there was always plenty to listen to. Merchants and travelers from all over Sornieth visited the tavern as they ventured on to their destinations, and year after year she’d listen to their stories and dream of the day when she’d be able to experience the world for herself. She learned of the elemental deities from those coming from distant lands, and of the creatures that stalked in woods far away. People and cultures and traditions of every type passed through the little tavern, and each and every one of them stuck with the young Wildclaw as she grew.

As time went on, her thoughts turned to leaving the her little corner of the world. She was tired of just hearing about it -- she wanted, no, needed, to see it for herself. But she couldn’t. She knew this. It would break her parent’s hearts if she did. She loved her parents dearly, and dared not to hurt them. They too loved her, but were afraid of the outside world. She knew there was no point in trying to convince them. She abandoned the thought for a time, until the fateful night when everything changed.

At first it seemed like nothing -- just a slightly different smell in the air. It was far from infrequent that a foul smell would drift up from the bar below, so Falenas thought little of it. However, the smell continued to persist, and as she awoke she realized that it was far past their closing hour. Her room felt suffocatingly hot and sweat pooled in the folds of her skin -- odd she thought, considering it was not particularly warm this time of year. That’s when she saw it. A slight flicker of red visible beneath the crack of her door. Fire. She jumped from her bed and rushed to the door, pulling it open only to be greeted with a wall of flames. Taken aback, she fell to the ground and called out for her parents. The only reply was the cracking of wood and the roar of the inferno. Although frightened beyond belief, Falenas knew that she must do something to get out. She slammed the door shut and stuffed her blanket into the crack to block the smoke that was quickly beginning to fill the small room. Running to the window, she attempted to undo the latches, but found her hands shaking so hard that she could not. With heart racing she grabbed a tome from her nightstand and smashed it against the glass. The glass cracked and shattered, opening a hole barely suitable for a child to crawl through. She took up the tome once more, and pounded at the window with all her might. More of the glass fell away, widening the hole. She glanced back at her room one last time. The edges of the blanket she stuffed beneath the door were already starting to catch fire. Blinking tears from her eyes, she hoisted herself up onto the window sill. The shards of glass cut deeply into her palms, but in her panic she barely noticed. From far below, the ground stared up at her. She closed her eyes, took a deep breath, and jumped.

When she awoke, rays of sun were just beginning to filter their ways through the branches of the trees. Falenas coughed and pain immediately coursed through her body. Memories from the night before suddenly came rushing back to her. She scrambled off the ground and stood there wheezing as she took in the pile of charred rubble that she used to call home. She called out for her parents but heard no answer. Clutching her chest in an attempt to ease the aching, she began shuffling around the debris -- all the while calling out in hopes that her parents would hear her. Nothing but the wind answered. A sudden glimmer in the rubble caught her attention. As she approached, tears welled up in her eyes and her breathing hitched. Near the top of the pile, covered in a fine layer of soot was a simple golden necklace. The same as she had always known her mother to wear. It was then that she realized… Her parents would never call back to her. They were in a place that she could not see and could not hear. The ache in her chest deepened. She felt suffocated. And robbed. And alone. Eventually, she could not stand the sight of her home any longer. Every time she turned to stare at the charred pile, shadowy memories would appear in her vision. At times, it seemed almost real. The tall, wooden walls still stood, and familiar faces flashed past the windows. But when she blinked, it would be gone, and only ashes would remain. She left that evening, streams of tears still marring her face.

For days she walked. Not really eating. Not really sleeping. Just drifting. Falenas wondered sometimes if she were not dead too. She felt as though she was... internally, but the constant aching in her chest and legs persistently told her otherwise. Eventually Falenas had to stop. The terrain was becoming too difficult, and every breath she drew only brought on more pain. She laid down and rested her head against a hollow, rotting log. Rolling slowly onto her back, she gasped for breath and stared up at the branches above. They seemed different somehow than the trees that grew in Dragonhome. Darker, and more sinister. Choking. These thoughts still swimming in her mind, Falenas drifted off into a deep, silent sleep.

“Falé! Falenas!” A voice called out to her from the darkness. “Falé, darling. Look, look at me!” Falenas opened her eyes, and reached her hand towards the voice. Fog clouded her vision, obscuring the view of whatever was speaking to her. “Falé, please! Look at me.” The voice drew closer and Falenas felt long hair brush across the front of her shoulder. “Falé, open your eyes.” Falenas could not understand. Her eyes were open! Why would the voice ask her to do something she had already done? “My child,” the voice said, “I see that you are confused. Open your eyes, sweet. Open them and then you will see me.” The voice seemed as though it was fading, all semblance of comfort going with it. She knew that voice. She wanted it back. “Mother please, come back to me…”
A droplet of water splattered onto her cheek, startling Falenas awake. The same branches she had fallen asleep beneath the night before stared down at her. The pain in her chest and legs had all but disappeared, but she still felt confused. That voice belonged to her mother. It had to! But what did she mean? Open your eyes and you will see me? Falenas shook her head and pushed herself up from the ground. She had no idea what her mother meant, but Gods be damned if she wouldn’t figure it out. She kept on walking deeper into the woods, all the while pondering on her mother’s words. Open your eyes? Had her eyes not been open in that vision? Her hand brushed against her pocket, bumping the cold metal object within. She pulled out the golden necklace that she had picked up from the rubble of her home. Putting it on, her eyes widened in realization. Open your eyes! Of course! It didn’t mean she needed to physically open her eyes! It meant she needed to open her mind. Her mind’s eye! If she was able to open her mind’s eye, she would be able to see her parent’s again! It seemed so simple at first, but she soon found that she absolutely no idea how she was supposed to do this. She wracked her mind, trying to think of information she heard while growing up that might help her. She could think of a few things, but had no way of putting these ideas into action. If she ever hoped to see her parent’s again, she would have to find someone with enough resources to put her plan into action. She traveled ever deeper into the woods, all the while praying that she would come across something that could help her.

A sudden snap and the sound of voices startled her from her thoughts. She scrambled into a patch of vines, hoping that the dense cover would hide her well enough not to be noticed. The voices began drawing closer, so much so that Falenas could make out their conversation. They seemed to be arguing over the direction that they should take. It seemed as though they both had very conflicting ideas on which territory they should head to. Either way, it seemed as though they were leaving this area. Perhaps if she went with them she could find someone who was willing to help her find materials to contact her parents! But how to approach them? And what if they were dangerous?

The deeper of the two voices made a particularly snide comment, causing the other to choke on whatever words it meant to say. Falenas could not help but let loose a laugh either, but quickly clamped her hand over her mouth as the voices paused. They had heard her. Fearing the she would be attacked if she did not attempt to pacify these strangers, she slowly emerged from the thicket of vines. Before her stood two dragons. One Ridgeback and one Wildclaw. They seemed confused, if not a bit startled themselves. Nervously, Falenas introduced herself and told the two of her situation. Although the two seemed equally nervous about her, they agreed to allow her to travel with them at least until she was able to find someone who could help her.

_____________________________________________________

Currently :

After their initial encounter, she learned a bit more about the two other dragons. The Ridgeback was called Voltaire and the Wildclaw was called Elliar. She also learned of their backstories and why they were traveling out of the Tangled Wood. Although she still continues her quest to find someone to help her learn how to communicate with her deceased parents, she has also become a permanent member of the Wanderers of Sornieth. She acts as the spiritual leader for the clan, using her vast knowledge about all deities to aid both clan relations and those within the clan. Although she still thinks of herself as not knowledgeable enough to truly conduct any spiritual energy, many know that she is far more powerful than she thinks -- and that if she would only believe in herself, she could become the most powerful bridge between the spiritual and waking world that Sornieth has ever seen.

Personality :

It is likely she will never stop missing her parents -- and will never stop searching for a way to contact them, but she is not fully absorbed by her quest. Falenas is an incredibly caring and devoted individual, despite being rather shy. Whether you need spiritual advice or simply need someone to talk to, Falenas is the one to go to. Although she has a fairly reserved nature, she never lost her desire for exploration and knowledge. Like most other members of the Wanderers, she’s more than happy to travel around rather than have a permanent home. She feels as though traveling lets her to reach out to more people, and nothing makes her feel quite as happy as being allowed to help.
