Rosetta, who had been listening in silence along with everyone else, looked up and made eye contact with the Wildclaw as soon as he finished asking the question. When do you let someone go? His words rang in her head, and she felt obligated to answer.

"You let them go when you know it would only hurt them more if you didn't." Rosetta looked down, her mind instantly replaying the same scene in her head that it had been for a couple of years now.

She'd been badly injured in a battle against a Beastclan. That battlefield was where she was going to die, and rather than feeling fear when she heard her leader call for a retreat, Rosetta just felt relief that no more of her clanmates would have to die with her. From her position in the dirt, she watched as they faded into the distance. Then, however, she realised that one dragon had turned around and was racing back towards her. Rosetta knew who it was before they were even close enough to make out: her mate.

By the time she reached her side, the Beastclan was nearly upon them. As Syringa leaned down to try to pull her up, Rosetta pushed her away. "Go!" She demanded, yelling over the sound of the approaching Beastclan. "You have to go... For me... If you stay, we'll both die. Please..."

Rosetta saw the hesitation in her mate's eyes, so she gave her one last push with the strength she had left. "Please! I love you, now go!" As soon as she saw Syringa take off in the other direction, Rosetta's eyes brimmed with tears. Somehow, choosing to be left behind felt harder than being the one leaving, but she knew that Syringa would have stayed if she asked her too. She would have stayed if she said nothing at all. The only way to get her to leave was letting her go, and Rosetta did that, even if she'd suffer the rest of her life for it.

Shaking her head quickly, Rosetta brought herself back to the present. It'd been years, but Rosetta hadn't stopped looking for her. Due to their clear loss in the battle against the Beastclan, her clan would've fled to find new territory to call home. They could be anywhere, but Rosetta needed to find them. She just wanted to know if Syringa was okay, and if she was happy again. That's all that mattered to her.
