Anubis was born in the frigid domain of the Southern Icefield, despite a family and a clan that loved him, he never quite felt at home there. As a hatchling he would often run away to the nearest market, and listen to the passing dragons tell stories of the other flights. Each land was different, but the stories he heard about the shaded land were his favorite.

When Anubis became old enough to leave, his mother begged him not to go to the Tangled Wood. The dragons there were trickers, they couldn’t be trusted. She knew his curiosity would likely get the best of him, but she tried to persuade him to go elsewhere. If he wasn’t satisfied in the frozen tundra, maybe he could find a home somewhere respectable.

Against his parents' wishes, Anubis left on his journey. His pull to the shadowed land was strong, but he kept his promise to explore the other lands as well. He seized his opportunity to study them all, the different hierarchy and balance of roles in each clan fascinated him. He marveled at the mysterious nature of the Arcane dragons and admired the grit of the battling dragons within the Scarred Wasteland. He never felt a part of any clan, but with each visit he garnered every bit of knowledge he could. He had never drawn blood himself, yet he knew the best dynamic for a coliseum team and the most effective way to train. He never healed an ailing dragon himself, yet he knew the indigenous herbs and roots that the healers used to make their salves and healing potions. He learned what roles were necessary within a clan to have it function as a single unit. Through careful observation he found he had a natural inclination for guiding younger dragons. He loved caring for hatchlings, each one unique and different. He had a natural ability to help the young ones hone their skills, and guide them towards their purpose.

He had visited many clans and attained much practical knowledge when he finally reached The Tangled Wood. He found his mother's words to be partially true. Many clans he encountered were made up of tricksters and thieves. He learned how to gauge someone's intent by reading their body language and tone of voice. It could be assumed that the shadows would teach him not to trust anyone, but it had quite the opposite effect. It taught him how to read other dragon's emotions and find the ones that he could trust. He used this knowledge to keep looking for the clan he felt he belonged to. He knew they must exist in the shadows.

With each clan he visited, he continued to feel his pull to move on. He was partially baffled and partially relieved when the feeling didn’t consume him when he found the Tribe of the Seelers. It just felt right here. The Tribe was led by an old Guardian, Azure. Azure was strong and wise, firm in his leading, but kind with his words. He quickly fell into his role of caretaker. Astraea had served as the healer and caretaker for her clan as long as she had been there, and seeing how Anubis interacted with the hatchlings made her confident in his ability to take over as caretaker. He quickly settled into his role, raising hatchlings and guiding them towards their own paths and dreams. He finally felt at home.

Nearly a year into his stay in the Tribe, Azure announced the decision to relocate the tribe to the Southern Icefields. Anubis’ heart sank at the initial announcement. He began to consider looking for a new home, but when Fletcher, a young dragon Anubis had found wandering alone, shared his excitement to move with a sparkle in his eye, Anubis thought maybe it wouldn’t be so bad.

Keeping Fletcher under his wing, and collecting a few more lost hatchlings along their way, Anubis soon found himself back in the land where his need for adventure bloomed the first time. Upon his return, he was quickly reunited with his parents, who fell in love with the hatchlings, and soon the rest of the Tribe. And even if Anubis missed the shadowed land, he realized he wouldn’t want to be with any other clan than his Tribe.
