The White Devil

Akeldama isn't sure when he began his journey as an assassin. He remembers little of his home clan, and nothing of his parents - faceless entities that he's not even sure deserve the title. His shade-touched handler informed him that he was sold as a hatchling to the Organization, a group working directly for the Shade that works to infiltrate weakened clans in the hopes of turning their allegiances. Kel's division specialized in eliminating threats to the Organization, whether those threats were in the form of dragons who could not successfully assimilate into their new clan or through those too reckless to conceal their true allegiances. He became known as "The White Devil" for his unnatural coloring, whispers following the trail of destruction left behind as a result of his work.
Kel had been born a Skydancer; however, upon his sale to the Organization, they promptly decided that his ability to sense the emotions of his prey would be troublesome. Thus, it was decided that he would become a Guardian - a ferocious fighter. It was unspoken that the Organization would, of course, be his charge. Kel knew this wasn't the case, but was wise enough to not contradict his handler's assumptions. In fact, Kel hadn't given a second thought to who or what his charge truly was. All he'd known was that it was most certainly not the Organization. That is, until his last assignment. He hadn't known at the time that it was his last - to him, it was a day like any other. He'd been assigned to eliminate a low-level shadeling, a recent turncoat who was in danger of exposing the whole operation within his clan. He'd finally cornered the mark alone when he spied a lone fae snooping around. She was off to the side, some sort of aetherial fox alongside her, and doing an absolutely abysmal job at hiding. He cursed as he felt the pull within him - she was to be his charge? Disbelieving, he wondered - how had he not felt it before? The urge to protect her above all else overwhelmed his being, circumventing the careful training and brainwashing of his handlers. That was the day he'd defected - he'd finished the mission, of course, but not on behalf of the Organization. No, he'd eliminated the shadeling for the crime of attacking his Charge, after the whelp had dared to pin her to a tree. He joined her home clan, and immediately began working against the Shade with the clan's defacto leader, Lucius. His ability to sense the shade within any dragon would prove most useful to his new clan. |
