The “elder brother” of Lorien (also called Irmo). Together these brothers are known as the Feanturi (Masters of Spirits). Nienna is their younger sister. Vaire, the Weaver is his wife. 'Mandos' is actually the name of his former home but has given up on being referred to his actual name, Namo. He keeps the Houses of The Dead to which the dead travel after death.

As Doomsman of the Valar, Mandos will pronounce judgment at the bidding of Manwe. He remembers all things that have or shall be. He has been staunch allies with Manwe since they entered Arda.

M andos is the grimist and most fatalistic of the Valar. He is in no way evil or cruel and any judgment he makes is without willfulness or malevolence. He is serious, to the point and allows little time for 'frivolities'.
