He was born with zero aptitude for magic, much to his disappointment. So ruinous is his magic ability that his presence alone is enough to disrupt spells he isn’t even casting. This was chalked up to an aura of misfortune for a very long time, until he was stricken with a grave illness and found to be totally immune to all magic, even the most basic healing magic.

history.
While he eventually recovered from his grievous illness in the natural way, his father sent him off as soon as possible. Magic nullification would not be tolerated in Moorsedge. He was touted as a rookie anti-mage - a perfect warrior for combating magic enemies - and sent to Clan Sky Spire for a political marriage.

relations.
Brigan: the spymaster to whom Lehaiah was betrothed and has since married. Brigan was originally very forthright about just how little he trusts his husband-to-be. Lehaiah shouldn't have found this charming, or the challenge of seducing the Spymaster exciting, but he did.

The two of them grew much closer as their engagement continued. Both have benefitted greatly from having the other man in their life.

Buttercup: When Lehaiah found an abandoned egg in the palace gardens, he knew this was a sign from the gods that he and Brigan should begin the family they'd spoken so much about. He loves his daughter with all his heart.

Bren: the second-in-command, and field leader of the Runebreakers. Bren was instrumental in making Lehaiah's idea of the Runebreakers become a practical reality.

Zeb: his father. Lehaiah did not spend much time with or even near his father growing up. When he was permitted near Zeb, he found himself in a state of almost constant confusion, as his Father's actions and the reactions of those around him never aligned. His foster-parents have always assured Lehaiah that Zeb does, indeed, love him. Lehaiah has never seen proof of this, and sometimes that bothers him, but his feelings on his father are already so muddled, so what's a bit more muck in the water.

Lilmu: his mother. Lehaiah feels like Lilmu hung the moon. Every smile, every kind word or gentle touch was a gift from his mother. A gift he had to work for, were scarce and far between, for Lehaiah looks so much like his father.
He writes to her often. And hopes someday she will write him back.

Ereshka: if Lilmu is 'Mother' than Ereshka is 'Mom'. As free with her kindness and her love as Lilmu was withholding, Ereshka taught Lehaiah from an early age that 'family' was something greater than blood. Equally important, she taught him that he himself was worth loving.

Silk: his Secret-Mom. Lehaiah was aware of Lilmu's distaste for Silk from the time he was very small. In a bid for his Mother's approval, he tried to emulate Lilmu's callous disregard for his Mother's retainer. It didn't work. Lilmu paid him no more mind than she ever did, and it made him feel awful, but he was so desperate for his Mother's attention that he carried on trying until both Ereshka and Minali hauled him off by the ear to give him a blistering lecture on his behavior. At that point, Lehaiah broke, collapsing in tears and apologizing over and over again to Silk, and promising to never do anything so horrible again. He's treated her with the respect and love she deserves ever since.

Luc: Foster-father. On the one hand, the nocturne was a fixture of Lehaiah's childhood, on the other, he's sort of an jerk. All the same, Lehaiah loves him and he's 99% certain that Luc would come to his aid if he was ever in dire need.

Minali: Fancy-Mom. Lehaiah's penchant for beautiful clothing and court gossip are all thanks to Minali. She was as much a friend as she was his Mom growing up, and he has many memories of sitting on her lap, listening as she told him all about the court's latest fashions, or the newest love affair. Whenever Lehaiah meets new nobility, he's sure to write Minali and tell her all about their fashion choices (especially when they're hideous).
