|| BackgroundMelpomene was hatched and raised in the Southern Icefield, in the sprawling tunnels of the Burrow Arkhaeion. From a young age, Melpomene seemed to fade into the background of the Burrow's halls of history. She was not a militant guard like her mother, and had no interest in transcribing the world. Her only love was that of acting, a secret passion born out of watching a traveling circus troupe. With their obsession over history, the Burrow did not understand her lack of interest, and no matter what she did, she continued to be forgotten.
Eventually, she became truly overshadowed by her foppish younger brother, Amadeus, who became a verifiable celebrity in the Burrow. Miserable and now truly alone, it was the final straw for Melpomene to leave, and leave she did. When Arlen appeared at the Burrow with gifts and sweet words of allyship, it was a shining light for the lonely Wildclaw to follow. She snuck out the very same night Arlen left, following her back to Rara Avis and finding there a small but thriving clan who were happy to welcome her in.
She was used to her privacy by that point, and made her den not in the comfortable Nests, but a small cavern etched into the Underchambers. There, she made friends with her neighbor Runewing, and the two soon fell in love; they have since connected their private dens to make a shared space between the two of them. And every time the yearly celebrations call for it, Melpomene is finally able to follow her true calling and perform plays for the whole clan.
|| CurrentA long-time resident, Melpomene is more than happy to stay in Rara Avis for the rest of her days. She had very few friends in the Burrow, and her disappearance did not cause much consternation. Melpomene has not contacted her brother in many moons and seems content to never message the Burrow again.
Amongst Rara Avis, Melpomene is somewhat of a strange figure, but not a scary one. She is often impassively silent when not performing, and prefers to stay in the Underchambers, writing and reading her prolific collection of plays. If not talking to her girlfriend Runewing, Melpomene can most frequently be seen in the back of the Rara Avis Public Library, borrowing any number of scrolls and books.
Most of Melpomene's friends are penpals, dragons with similar interests who also prefer their extreme privacy. However, though not too much has changed, Melpomene is much happier here than she ever was in the Burrow. She is not forgotten, just secretive, and she is always allowed to perform, as her acting skills— practiced for many hours every day— get better every time.

|| Notes◈ Though she has never wanted to be a mother herself, Melpomene has a soft spot for hatchlings. She will happily tell them stories and occasionally be found at the nests of new hatchlings, entertaining them with dolls.
◈ Melpomene's familiar, Pippin, joined her after he stowed away in a shipping compartment bound for Rara Avis. He is very intelligent and communicates with her through writing, as he cannot speak Draconic.
◈ Melpomene is in her early thirties.
◈ Despite their rocky relationship, Melpomene has a small collection of harpy masks, started after her mother gave her one after a routine mission. Though she left the first one in the Burrow, she has since developed an affection for them.
◈ Due to leaving before his status was elevated, Melpomene is unaware of her brother's status as nobility and, by extension, her own. She has not taken the 'von' prefix due to this.
