Orphaned before finding his charge, Aldryd was adopted by Elder Bayberry. She gave him all the necessities of life and in return he defended the clan's home from intruders. He lived a good life, never worrying about food or shelter, but always felt the pull for the Search. He knew one day he'd find his charge. One day.

As Elder Bayberry was about to leave to join an imperial to the clan, Aldryd begged her to bring him along. Nodding her head understandingly, she allowed him to follow. When they arrived, he knew what he had to do. Bowing in front of the imperial, he spoke in a clear, calm tone, "Gwenfron, you are my charge. I devote my life to protect you from all harm...and..." As he locked eyes with her, she understood. She spoke in a cool, soft voice, "And to be my mate, from now until the end of our lives? I do accept your offer, Mr..." "Aldryd," he answered. As the three flew back, Aldryd had one question. Flying close to Elder Bayberry, he asked, "How did you know that I'd find my charge here and now?" Laughing lightly, she said, "A Tundra can smell things before they are seen."

Aldryd has a leathery hide that is somewhat silken to the touch and rough wings that are also leathery, but are stretchier. His fins are usually furled, but when he is startled or acting intimidating, they unfurl quickly, making him appear to be quite a formidable foe. His midnight-colored belly is made of hard, bony plates that overlap and are connected by an elastic, yet insect-like in texture, underbelly. The bony plates only separate enough for the underbelly to be seen if Aldryd is stretching out fully (think of cats!). His claws are razor sharp and he is very, very strong.
