Matriarch

B I O G R A P H Y

Kay is the Matriarch of the clan, and she takes her job quite seriously. Having been hatched out of an abandoned egg, the young Guardian grew up tough and somewhat socially estranged; she spent many years traveling across the lands alone, avoiding contact with most other clans and keeping to herself.

The one time she decided to try and interact with a fellow dragon did not go entirely well for her. She met a funny little Fae along the way that took a great deal of interest in her, or more specifically, in her size and strength. Due to her naive nature, the Fae, who introduced himself as Lensh, was able to convince her to come with him to his clan, where she could get food and shelter for a time until she once again had to depart on her Search.

Kay agreed, and followed Lensh to his clan. It wasn't until she had walked into the cavern and spotted the multitude of caged Guardians that she realized that something was wrong, but it was far too late. She was captured, and used as breeding stock to produce large and powerful slave-warriors. Lensh managed to get one clutch out of her before she managed to escape, fleeing for her life.

She spent many years after in seclusion, terrified of strangers and quick to run other dragons off if they approached. They couldn't be trusted. It wasn't until she ran into a strange character that things changed for her. Entering a cavern to find a place to rest one evening, Kay found that it was already occupied by a creature much smaller than herself. A red-maned Pearlcatcher by the name of Loki had already claimed the cavern as his temporary lair, though he was quite willing to share it. For whatever reason, against her usual solitary and aggressive nature, Kay agreed to sharing the spot. She could have easily overpowered him and taken the spot for herself, chasing him out like she had many others before him, but something was pushing her to stay. Something persuaded her to listen to his odd ramblings.

Her Search ended, then, and her Charge was found; Kay and Loki founded their own clan within that very cavern. It has grown since then, and the two have made many friends and settled down with mates of their own. Regardless of this, though, they both know that wherever one might go, the other would drop everything and follow.

It took a long time, and a lot of support and coaxing from Loki, before Kay ever spoke about what had happened to her. It took even longer before she was open to trusting others beyond her Charge. It was only after she had found herself in a safe and stable place that she thought back on Lensh and the Slavery Clan. Once in a while she wondered what had happened to the three hatchlings from her clutch, but she never thought on it too long. Only pain would come from that.

B I O G R A P H Y

Kay is an incredibly tough dragon and is by far the strongest warrior in the clan. She's quick to make very certain that strangers and trespassers are well aware of her superior strength and willingness to viciously protect her territory and clan. Most of the time, however, it is simply bravado. While she is more than capable of overpowering most foes, Kay would much rather use violence as a last resort.

She's ridiculously loyal, possibly to a fault, particularly when it comes to Loki. No matter how many times the mischievous Pearlcatcher gets them into trouble, his faithful Guardian is always willing to walk into it with him.

Still well known for being somewhat anti-social and sometimes nervous around strangers, Kay can often be found watching the goings on of the clan from a bit of a distance. She is particularly fond of lounging on rocky outcroppings above the others, peering down at them like royalty watches over subjects. It has earned her the nickname The Emerald Queen. She doesn't take kindly to being touched unless given express permission, and there are very few she ever gives permission to. Trust doesn't come easily to her; it's difficult to gain and impossible to regain once lost.

Kay is happily mated to the handsome Imperial, Tael, though it is well known and accepted that she and Lopki have a strong and intimate relationship, and if forced to choose between the two, it would be Loki every time. Tael has learned not to rock the boat, and has even become somewhat friendly with the mischievous Pearlcatcher.
