The waves crashed upon white sand, white streaks of seafoam dying between land and sea. At the very edge of both, front paws in the water and hind paws rooted deep in the wet sand, Suryamitra glanced upon the horizon.

There were many thoughts in her mind, thoughts of her clan, thoughts of her parents...What was she to do with her life? How was she supposed to use those gifts she had inherited from her ancestors? Could she do better than her siblings or would she be the only one to fail?

Insecurity stood in her way. She had to take the first step, she had to make a decision for herself and for her future. Slowly, she closed her eyes, keeping still, rocked by the sound of the crashing waves.

She would reveal her abilities. She would take responsibility for what she could perceive of this vast world and bear the burden of her sensitivity to others' pain. Out there, her one true friend was the sun, its bright light comforting her, giving her courage. No matter where she went, she wouldn't be alone.
