Alec
al-eck
Protective | Warrior of the Toxic Wastes | Hunter
tumblr_inline_nwr25y7WeU1sgemal_250.png

Skilled with blades and protective to a fault, Alec is one of the Toxic Wastes' most dependable warriors. Despite his considerable size, he is agile and quick, easily capable of dodging enemy attacks and countering with fatal blows. His one major fault is his quickness to fight; when his friends, family, or his honor are threatened, Alec will turn hell and attack the perceived aggressor with all his might - even if it's a fellow clanmate. He's gotten into many fights this way, and been warned more than a few times to cut it out before he's banished. Because Alec is an Imperial, Kind Andiron is wary of his aggressive lifestyle and is constantly in fear that he will somehow get himself killed and start a chain reaction that leads to an Emperor. Alec does his best to assuage these fears, but it doesn't stop him from getting into the odd brawl with a dragon foolish enough to taunt him.

Wintermane Bowman Alec and Suria met one another in the midst of a cold winter, just along the border of the Wandering Contagion. Ankle-deep in snow, Alec fought a group of Talonok as they circled him in the sky and threw taunts along with their weapons. Alec was alone at the time and vastly outnumbered, but far too stubborn to retreat from the attack. Just as it was looking like the Talonok would overpower him, however, a single arrow fired through the sky and hit the leader of the group square in the chest. The flock scrambled for direction as Suria - a lone Centaur who still carried the Dunhoof name - charged into the fray and fired off a volley of arrows into the group. As the Talonok retreated, Suria inquired as to Alec's condition, then introduced herself as a loner and a friend of dragons. Alec was so moved by her compassion and aid that he asked her if she would accompany him back to his home. She agreed, and together they made their way through the snow, talking like old friends the entire way. Though rarely seen in the Toxic Wastes, Suria considers herself a friend to the clan and to Alec especially, and will always fight by his side if she is called.

Backstory

Alec was born in the middle of a nest of five, hatched between four extraordinary siblings with otherworldy gifts and abilities. Though he had no unusual traits of his own, Alec never resented his siblings; rather, he revered them, and vowed to always protect them and put himself between them and any harm that might befall them. Monster, Vertigo, Pluto, and Ghost were the heart of many of Alec's adolescent fights - any dragon or beast who taunted or threatened them were faced with a furious young Imperial training himself in the art of swordplay. It didn't matter that they could defend themselves; what mattered, to Alec, was putting himself on the line for them to show his dedication and love.

As the five Imperials grew into adults, they began to dream of finding new clans, homes of their own where they might fit in. At least, four of them thought this way - Alec did not. He wanted his brother and sisters to stay right where they were so he could continue to watch over them and keep them safe. Arguments were had as they insisted they would be fine on their own and Alec stubbornly refused to relent. Eventually their parents stepped in, and after a long conversation, Alec finally gave in with one caveat - he would continue to visit his siblings, wanted letters from them, and would always be ready to protect them if they ever needed him.

To Alec's delight, Monster and Vertigo ended up going to the same clan, yet he wasn't as lucky with Pluto and Ghost. Even so, all four stayed within the Scarred Wasteland, and Alec's fears were soothed by the fact that they all remained just close enough for him to always be able to rush to their sides.

Left alone in their birth clan, Alec made the decision to travel as well, hoping he would find a good clan that he could defend and protect in earnest. He flew all across the Wasteland in search of such a clan, and eventually, he stumbled across the Toxic Wastes and some of its denizens. They were kind to him, and they told him that while they certainly had many fighters and warriors, none were so dedicated to protecting the entire lair as Alec seemed to be. It appeared as though he'd found his home...

But King Andiron refused him.

Alec was stunned and confused. Andiron was perfectly kind; why was he so unreasonable? Stubborn as always, he fought back against the ruling, asking why in the world he wasn't allowed to join the clan. They had room. They had resources. And there were only four other Imperials, counting Andiron himself! Why refuse a perfectly good warrior?

Andiron tried to say it was because they didn't need a warrior, they had plenty, but his hesitation in giving his answer gave away the lie. Alec pressed further, and finally, Andiron revealed the truth - his fear of Emperors, and the horrible past that haunted him each day.

In all seriousness, Alec promised he would never fall in battle, and would single-handedly go up against an Emperor if one threatened the clan, because no beast was allowed to threaten his home or his friends.

Though still wary, Andiron finally relented in the face of Alec's insistence and dedication. Alec proudly took up position as the defender of the Toxic Wastes as soon as he was allowed, and each day tries to impress and assure Andiron with his skills and strength. He is determined to be the force that the Wastes needs, just as he is determined to always protect his siblings, no matter how far they go. He takes care of the clan like a Guardian with a Charge, and will do so for as long as he feasibly can.

His determination, however, couldn't always protect those he was too far away from. In time, focused on protecting his clan, Alec lost track of two of his sisters - their letters stopped coming in. He couldn't know then that they had gone on to serve the Plaguebringer directly, having never found what clan they had moved to. His remaining sister was sparse with her messages, and in time, his brother would stop messaging just like the first two sisters had.

Alec began to worry horribly for them all, but was too attached to the Toxic Wastes to dedicate his time to a hunt for them. They had moved on, and try as he might to hang onto them, he knew they had lives of their own. He tried to let go.

In time he would find companionship in a young Fae named Blueberry, the head treasurer of the fantastic Mint City in the Wind lands. Within a day the two grew close, and Alec began to feel things he'd never felt before, strange flutters in his stomach and chest and warmth in his ears every time Blueberry offered him even the tiniest compliment.

Escorting Blueberry back to Mint from a Plague negotiation was Alec's first time outside of the Scarred Wasteland, and an incredible experience for him. As night fell, he would take Blueberry back to the Toxic Wastes so they could spend more time together, and as they bonded amidst a rampaging storm, a miracle happened:

Alec's brother, Ghost, arrived at the Wastes.

The reunion was a sight to behold. Two massive dragons galloping about, headbutting and nuzzling one another. King Andiron, a witness to the affair, reluctantly made the decision to allow Ghost to stay - being a Plague dragon, he was no more danger than Alec or even Vennon in regards to creating an Emperor.

Blueberry returned home with warm feelings of his own as Ghost moved into the Wastes. His story was one of woe, a clan falling apart and a trail of spirits that led him back to his brother. He also brought the sad news that Vertigo and Monster had left the land to serve directly in the Plaguebringer's army. There was one silver lining, however; Pluto, the final sibling, was still in the clan she had moved to.

A letter was sent to Pluto's clan to re-establish contact. Right around the same time, a letter arrived from a different clan, Plague-Fang; it was from a dragon named Shiro, a temperamental young Imperial soldier who just so happened to share Alec and Ghost's father. Thrilled to be reuniting with another family member, even if he was technically a half-sibling, Alec made arrangements to meet Shiro in person. After a small scare involving a very bloodied Shiro arriving in the Toxic Wastes, the three brothers bonded over their family ties. To King Andiron's relief, Shiro would be staying in clan Plague-Fang rather than trying to move into the Wastes.

The relief would be short lived as another dragon arrived at their doorstep not long after Shiro's departure. It was none other than Pluto, still clutching her brother's letter in her claws.

Knowing how important Alec's family was to him by that point, Andiron allowed her to stay as well, especially considering her extensive healing abilities and medical knowledge. Pluto settled in with a story not unlike Ghost's; her clan had been falling apart, as well as a long-term relationship of hers after several eggs failed to hatch. Alec's letter convinced her to finally move on and rejoin her brothers rather than dwell on what all had been lost.

And to cement everything together, Shiro - inspired by his siblings' reunions - found a full sibling of his own, a strange mystic by the name of Kalí. Though not his original clutchmates, Alec was more than happy to pull Shiro and Kalí into his life, delighted to have four entire siblings to care for again.

Still the Toxic Wastes' most dedicated warrior, Alec now takes occasional time off to adventure with his siblings or spend time with his companion Blueberry, his stubborn nature overtaken by a heart of gold and an almost overwhelming kindness.
