"There are standards, Jenara. Standards that you must reach." Her father was always adamant about that. A Wildclaw is a Wildclaw no matter what, and they are fighters-a species built on battle and duels, on family trees and hierarchy. Jenara was raised properly, her father would proclaim. From the moment she could walk, she was thrown into battle upon battle, geared to move up the ranks of her old clan. But as she grew, she found books-books about noble dragons-knights and vigilantes who used their might not to benefit themselves, but others. Disciplined warriors, ones that stood for justice and truth, ones who struck out for those who could not defend themselves...the more she read, the more she knew that it was her fate to join them. But these dragons did not fight just to fight, so neither did she. Her father quickly grew angry at her more peaceful ways, proclaiming she had grown lazy thanks to her high ranking. He made a point to challenge her, and encouraged others to do the same. She grew self-conscious, tried to act a little more aggressive, but she couldn't bring herself to revert to her previous ways. He continued to pester her until he could take it no more, and challenged her to a duel. She refused, of course, and was cast out of her old clan in disgrace. She took this in stride and decided to treat it as a new beginning. Ursula had been a regular employee of her clan, and a close friend of hers, so naturally she followed Jenara. The two of them went out looking for a clan that might need their assistance. They found it at the Dome. The fledgling project had no one to protect it from the hostile creatures and dragons of the Ice realm, so Jenara naturally volunteered herself. She found a mate in Mahalath, who is always quiet and gentle. She is still a close friend of Ursula, despite their vastly different personalities. The clan loves her for her kind, noble nature and often turn to her in times of need. She could easily claim leadership position from Indrani, but has no desire to. |
