She was the fateful knight who taught Silas all he knows. She doesn't speak much of what happened before Aslan and Violet returned to their rightful thrones. She's often seen poking fun at Icarus while he guards, or training the new recruits. It's said that under all of her feathers lay momentous scars from a darker time.

Before the Kingdom
She came from another kingdom, long before Silas and the kingdom was even a thought. Her home clan had been pillaged, everything destroyed and ruined. Her family was practically massacred to suit the needs of the raiders, and then everything was burned.
Among the flames, Esmenda had fled. Covered with soot, and ash, she stumbled for days. When an old dragon finally found her. He took her in, and taught her how to fight, and how to kill. She grew close to this dragon, adopting him as a father figure and striving to grow as strong as she could to bring revenge for her lost family. For every hit that tore her down, she rose back up with even more anger, even more determination.
It's said her and Icarus are the ones who burned the kingdom to free Violet from tyrannous rulers. Since then, both of them had suffered major burns after having been captured and treated as traitors. While Icarus escaped to try to find the lost princess, Esmenda was forced to stay, her own vengeance growing.
The day she broke free, it was said that her feathers would forever remain stained red. She waited at the castle, training, and waiting for the rightful King and Queen to return to throne. Her own student, Silas had been the one to fall for the Queen. She beams with pride seeing them together, though her emotions are stagnant at best.
