Lost Princess

B I O G R A P H Y

The lost princess born of nature, but with a heart of a thousand fathoms.

Luminae resides in the Shifting Expanse, with a clan that was her family despite not being connected by blood to any of them. Lumi loved her family with all her heart, but then she had always felt that there was something missing in her life. And her feet were always pulling her to the edge of the Shifting Expanse, and daring her to cross the border and feel the waters at her feet. Countless times, she wanted to cross but never did.

Until that one day.

Some of her clanmates were going out fishing, and they invited Luminae with them. The sea-coloured dragon was anxious, but the pull inside her was stronger than ever. So despite the gnawing feeling in her stomach, she agreed and went with them. Upon arriving at the edge of the Sea of a Thousand of a Thousand Currents, Luminae saw and felt the water calling her under.

She thought she was going crazy when she saw something literally wave its hand, as if waving her over. Seeing her clanmates engrossed in their activities, Luminae quietly slipped away, following the calling whispers.

She didn’t even know she was already underwater until it became dark around her. Despite the fear eating up her insides, Luminae swam on, until she reached the cliffs of a trench. The craggy rocks felt like thorns pricking her feet, but still she moved forward.

A glowing figure emerged in front of her, a dragon whose scales shone like crystal blue Sapphires.

“Welcome home,” it said, in a voice as fluid as the water around them.

Home? Was she truly home? Was this where she was supposed to be?

B I O G R A P H Y

The blue dragon in front of her snapped its fingers and Luminae was engulfed in a bright glow. Suddenly, memories that weren’t even hers came to her.

Were those her parents? Those two dragons where power emanated from? They couldn’t be anyone else though, and she watched with fascination as they used their powers to defeat those that threatened their clan. In the vision, she was standing in the middle of a palace, the walls made from ivory corals.

As the vision faded, Luminae realized that she was standing in its ruins, the walls now crumbling.

“Wh-what happened here?” She choked out.

The spectral dragon before her let out a long, sad sigh, “After your parents, the king and queen, lost you, they fell into misery. With the decline in power, rival clans and beasts managed to overpower us until finally, we were ruined.”

“I’ve been waiting for you princess,” the spectre said, its blue eyes trained on her, “But I’ve waited for too long, and my time is up. There’s no bringing back what is now a memory. At least I got to see you before I left this world princess, and I got to show you who you truly were.”

“Now, you should continue on with your life, help others, be free.”

And with those parting words, the dragon before her disappeared with a glow, leaving only bubbles as proof that she didn’t just imagine it. Still shaken up, she swam to the surface, the rest of her clanmates looking at her with confusion in their eyes. Luminae only smiled at them, but it didn’t quite reach her eyes.

It’s been years since that day, but every single event still remains a vivid picture in her mind. To this day, Luminae has kept her identity a secret from her clan, still not entirely believing that she was the long lost princess of a now crumbled kingdom. But as much as she doesn’t believe it, she can’t deny the power that courses through her veins and the way the ocean pulls her in. Luminae hopes that someday, she can find her people and rebuild her home.

But for now, she’ll stay contented with the clan that welcomed her and gave her a home despite not knowing who she is. Someday, she’ll share her true identity with them but for now, she’ll just be the jester of the group, the one that brightens up their days and bring smiles to their faces.
