Another apprentice to clan-mother Tali'Zorah alongside Wisp, as the Spiral learned to control her foresight, Alstromeria learned to listen to the voices that whispered to her, tuning out those that were wrong to listen to the one that mattered: in her case, the voice of the Arcanist. Tali still leads the clan spiritually, but Meri's connection with one of their patrons is honestly a great relief to those in the Brightclaw who remember the move from Arcane territories, as it reassures them that the Arcanist hasn't abandoned them. She only speaks with Him on rare occasions, but His voice always provides great comfort, even if the psychic hangovers she experiences afterwards give her severe migraines, with nausea and visual auras. Luckily, her clan-sister Wisp understands the psychic strain of the Arcanist's gifts, something the two of them are happy to support each other through. Meri considers her mate, Polyxenes, another gift from the Arcanist, though she has no confirmation of it; He has never confirmed for her whether He sent her mate, but the Skydancer is just so perfect for her that she can't believe it's anything but the Gods' will that brought them together. Depsite Tali, Wisp, and Polyxenes' gentle warnings to stay away from her, Alstromeria finds herself fascinated by Sonna, and it's not entirely her fault: the Arcanist whispers to her about the wayward mage, waxing poetic about her Arcane prowess and how He believes she'll turn from the Shade. Meri doesn't have the heart to tell Him that she thinks Sonna is lost, but she studies Sonna closely anyway, trying to reconcile the dangerous witch with the eager and brilliant student that the Arcanist talks about. If she's not careful, Meri may end up provoking the Shadewitch and starting a fight she can't finish. |
