If you fall in love with the devil, don't make deals with the sea.
"Now here is a riddle to guess if you can, sing the bells of Notre Dame,"

.................................

Valdrez opened her eyes to see a familiar pair of hate filled eyes
staring back at her. In total instinct, Valdrez tried to put her hands up in
front of her, but found that they were shackled together behind her.
Groaning in frustration, Valdrez pushed herself away from the gleaming eyes
and tried to find a wall or something to protect her.
“Don’t fret too much.” The eyes hissed. “Nothing can save you here.”
Valdrez tried to snap her fingers to ignite her powers, but when she
snapped, nothing happened. The eyes laughed as Valdrez’s eyes widened.
“And when I mean nothing, I mean nothing.”
“Where am I?!?” Valdrez hissed as Lithe took a step towards her.
“You must recognize this room.” Lithe sneered as she kneeled down to
eye level with Valdrez. “Your father created it.” Valdrez looked around her at
the seemingly iron walls, and after a moment, Valdrez realized that sketches
were etched into the walls with a red liquid that closely resembled blood. As
recognition dawned, Valdrez’s eyes widened in horror. “Yes…yes!! You have
no powers here!!” standing up, Lithe’s cackle was horrifying. “You, you and
your pathetic husband the ******* call king are mortal within these walls.”
“If we’re mortal, than so are you.” Valdrez spat.
“Ahh, but that’s where you’re wrong.” Lithe raised her index finger.
“The room only takes effect over an extended period of time. I, however,
leave this room daily so the spells have no effect on me.” Lithe snapped her
fingers and a bright red flamed sprung to life. “I still have my powers.”
Leaning down, Lithe touched Valdrez’s skin with her flaming fingers and
Valdrez’s eyes flashed with pain, but she did not cry out. “Although all of
your years won’t rush up and kill you right away, you are mortal now, which
means…I can kill you.” As Lithe moved out of Valdrez’s line of vision, Valdrez
saw Clopin chained to the opposite wall, far out of the reach of her chains
and shackles.
“Please.” Valdrez spat as soon as Lithe backed away. “Please you have
no quarrel with Clopin, let him go…keep me.”
“Oh, come on, I won’t kill you.” Lithe sniffed. “That would be too easy,
and won’t have much satisfaction to it.” Turning to the side, she added. “But
killing the people you love…”
“No…Clopin!” she gasped and her husband lifted his head and met her
eyes.
“Valdrez!” he gasped and pulled at his chains, trying to reach her.
“Ah, isn’t this cute?” Lithe hissed. “Love. Bah.” Walking over to Clopin,
Lithe took a sharp knife from her jacket pocket and raised it so that the
blade glinted in the dim light.
“No!” Valdrez yanked at her shackles, tears welling up in her eyes. “I’ll
do anything! Please!” Lithe threw her head back and laughed. “NO! PLEASE!”
“Didn’t your parents ever tell you?” Lithe asked, her smile
disappearing from her face. “There’s no such thing as true love. Love can be
severed so easily.” And dropping to her knees, Lithe plunged the knife into
Clopin’s chest, right below his heart.
“NO!” Valdrez screamed, tears streaming down her face. “NO!”
Lithe twisted the knife farther into Clopin’s chest, but Clopin did not
cry out. His eyes widened in shock as blood began to pour out of the wound
and down his torso. His mouth opened, but no sound came out. Grinning,
Lithe yanked the knife out of Clopin’s chest and stood, wiping the blade on
her pant leg. Clopin raised a shackled hand to his chest and pressed it to the
wound. Lithe stepped back and snapped her fingers. Valdrez launched
herself forward as her shackles disappeared from her wrists and she came to
a sliding halt next to Clopin just as he slumped over from the wound and
started to shake.
“Clopin…” Valdrez’s voice was weak as Clopin stared up at her, blood
pouring from the wound. Lithe back up and opened the door to the room,
slinked out, and shut the door noiselessly behind her. “Clopin…please, I love
you….” Valdrez pressed her hands on the wound, but the blood was coming
too fast for her to stop it with pressure alone. Shaking, Valdrez lifted her
hands off of Clopin’s chest as tears dripped off her face, mixing with Clopin’s
blood. “..I can’t….I can’t…Clopin…I’m…I can’t…I don’t have my powers, I
can’t…I’m sorry…” Clopin turned his black eyes to Valdrez as he opened his
mouth to whisper three small, powerful words.
“I…love you…” Clopin whispered before his body went still. Valdrez’s
body went numb as she reached up with a shaky, blood stained hand to
stroke the side of Clopin’s face.

“Clopin…?” she asked, her voice weak. “Clopin?” when he didn’t
answer, Valdrez’s body began to shake harder as she clasped her hands to
her heart. “Clopin? Clopin! I love you! Please! Clopin!” folding in on herself,
Valdrez put her head against Clopin’s neck, listening for a heartbeat, but
Clopin’s body was silent. Shaking harder, Valdrez began to rock back and
forth, her tears streaming down her cheeks. Her mouth opened, and the wail
that came through was no longer human, nor was it animal.
“Clopin!”
