Biography
Balon
Gatekeeper "It's a rare gift to be able to strike fear into those who fear nothing." |
The arrival of Balon the Gatekeeper was one none in the clan expected. One day they simply entered the lairs entrance to be greeted kindly by a deep, clear voice that echoed throughout the entrance cave. The strangest part was not that Balon greeted each and every member by name, even though they had never seen him before, nor that they too somehow knew his name, no. The strangest part was that when each member stared around the cave to find the source of the voice, they would never do so again.
They say the eyes are the window to the soul. So what if you stared into someones eyes and it filled you with such a primordial terror, one that defies all logic, all reason or explanation? What kind of soul would such a being possess? if one at all? These are the nightmares that haunt the clan members who dwell on what they saw. Most try to forget but they never succeed and out of both respect and fear, none speak of it or even Balon himself to any clan member or dragon alike, not even the Immortals
It is whispered amongst any who encounter the Immortals that they fear nothing, not even death itself, which is true, yet even they have been seen to avoid gazing into the sickly green, glowing eyes of Balon the Gatekeeper.
Thankfully only one dragon, to the clans knowledge, has ever glimpsed more Balon's body. It was an accident the Guardian has never forgiven himself for. One night, a recruit had been venturing out to gather when a Double-tailed War cat had discovered the cave mouth and thought it a good place to hide the night away. one quick snap and the beast had disappeared into Balon's jaws, leaving only a pool of blood where it stood. The moonlight briefly reflected from the Gatekeepers scales and shone into the eyes of the recruit.
The last the clan saw of him after that unforgettable night was his ridged body being dragged into the sealed chamber of Raal the Beast, muttering "Nothing but death, nothing but death" over and over.
