Biography
Named after the gemstone: Rubellite/ Red-Pink variety (I liked the name Tourmaline better).
Tourmaline migrated from the Starfall Isles through the Auction House. He’s very flamboyant and has a passion for stargazing and astronomy, skills that have earned him the title of Arcane Rep. Having built his observatory into the ‘mini behemoth’ (the tall tree just west of the actual Behemoth on the map) that marks TLOMR’s place on the map, Tourmaline also lives there. He teaches the hatchlings numerous constellations so that they may find their way home should they ever be lost. Despite his stints as a teacher, Tourmaline very much prefers his own company and can get grumpy if disturbed. Thetis has an on-again-off-again relationship with him which resulted in Behemoth, but the kid rarely gets to see his dad. He lives with Polaris, a blind heavenly body that fell from the sky. They get on alright...most of the time. Polaris sometimes, at Tourmaline's request, fetches star residue for him to study from the night's constellations.
Tourmaline also gets visits from Transmissions, the alien entity that crashed landed in TLoMR not very long ago. She appreciates his company, since he discovered her flight pattern and wreckage, but has yet to realise that the Wildclaw now has a crush on her. He likes to watch her through his telescope sometimes. No one's called him out on it...yet. Polaris is thinking about it.

Though Elbaite occurs in all color forms, the term Elbaite in the gemstone trade is sometimes used to describe the green form of Tourmaline. The other color forms of Elbaite have their own variety names on the gem market. Traditional Tourmaline gemstone variety names include Rubellite, the red or pink variety, Indicolite, the blue variety, and Watermelon Tourmaline, a multicolored Tourmaline of green and red. More recently coined Tourmaline variety names include Chrome Tourmaline and Paraiba Tourmaline. A recent trend in the gem market is to prefix Tourmaline gemstones by the color designation as opposed to variety name, such that "Rubellite" is now more often called "Red Tourmaline". The value of Tourmaline has a very large range. The more common forms can be fairly inexpensive, but the rarer and more exotic colors can command very high prices.
