Biography
Vulcan, or Hephaestus, was born to Zeus and Hera. He was deformed ("shriveled of foot") at birth, and so, naturally, Hera, the goddess of fertility and family, threw him off a mountain. He fell into the ocean where he was raised by two sea nymphs for nine years. He made them beautiful jewelry and gifts, and when Hera found out, she "forgave" him, claimed him as her son, and brought him up to Olympus to make her trinkets.
He eventually got revenge by making Hera a golden throne which, when she sat on it, chained her down. None of the gods could free her, so they sent Dionysus to get Hephaestus drunk and convince him to let her go.
He is married to Aphrodite, but both of them are as untrue as they are able. He once tried to "pursue" Athena, and when she disappeared into thin air, he ejaculated on the earth, impregnated Gaia herself. He fathered the child Erichthonius, and Athena fostered him.
(disclaimer: i don't usually deal with roman names, but i just really love the name vulcan--)
i also have a betta fish named hephaestus, because he was a little bit ugly but i loved him anyways. it turns out that he developed really gorgeous colors, so now he's just hephaestus because i love him.
